It takes something away from all those its swapped into.....and its no longer a relatively cheap engine if you want the lightness aspect.

Pretty much, its like saying "Oh, so you built a Corvette".....but it doesn't do everything a Corvette can do as easily.....so, why not buy a corvette?

Leave the rotors alone, leave the I-6's alone, and for god sakes leave the flat 6's alone.

I notice you didn't say that automatic gearboxes can also be fun. ;-)

Wow, I am WAY late on this one.

First off, this is the best automotive-themed forum on the internet. Period. I am on a lot of forums, and I mostly lurk on there because I don't want to deal with the backlash of commenting on something from being outside of the inner circle of the "cool kids". Here, just about everyone is a "cool kid"!

The ONLY time I have received any sort of remote hostility was when discussing my past experiences with my old WRX's. Those that still have them became defensive, but that's totally cool. And it was all in good fun. But that's it! Everyone has an opinion. Mine was based on my own past experiences, and it was respected. Where else is that going to happen?

I really love this place. I actually joined this forum while sitting in my room at the Best Western Gateway Grand back at the $2009 Challenge. I was there with other members of what would become of the Team External Combustion crew, and childhood friend Greg (Pseudosport on here) dragged me along. Greg went to college with Dave (WiblerM3) and was childhood friends with Jeff (Miatame). Attending the Challenge changed me enough in one day that I had to join this forum. A year later, I found myself buying a car from the $2010 Classifieds in the form of the rustiest 1987 Shelby CSX still left on the planet for $100. I bought in completely to the GRM lifestyle, quite literally. Here I was, a guy bred on GM muscle cars and a diehard Subaru fanboi buying a rusty, discarded Turbo Dodge massaged by a Texas chicken farmer. Brand loyalty out the window. That is GRM!

Since then, I have met and befriended other local GRM'ers (like Chris/Mazdax605), and made many connections and friends at the Challenge each year, including those on the staff. And a word about the staff: No other publication has a staff as approachable as GRM. Everyone on the staff is of a similar mindset and not afraid to mingle with the readers. That is so damn cool, and so much appreciated.

I'm not leaving until they shut the lights off.

For the most part I find it pretty easy going here. Personally when I deal with people face to face who come across as egotistical know it alls, I usually ignore them. I'm thankful I don't see that type of behavior that much here, but when I do, again I try to ignore it here to as well.

Like they say what's great about America is everyone gets to have an opinion. But what may be even greater, is you don't have to listen to them. But if you do and you feel you must remark about it, I was raised to do it in as respectful a way as possible.

One example I can only mention, and I'm sorry I cant provide a link on this device I'm currently on, was a member here who posted he bought a Mitsubishi Mirage and gave some quick insight why he liked it. More than one person responded with what I would consider less than respectful posts to that thread. One was downright rude. The worst part was not one person, moderator or otherwise, chimed in to keep things from further going in a negative direction.

That was a time when I felt this forum was no longer fun. But look, I've come back lol.

I'm good with auto's. I've said here many times that the L98 powered C4 Corvette's are better with an auto than a manual. If I were to buy a post 2012 Porsche it would have a PDK and If i buy an S550 Mustang with a V8 it will also be an auto. Modern auto's, lot's of torque, heavy clutches and stop and go commutes have made me a believer.

^A PDK isn't a slushbox with planetary gears and a torque converter, it's a dual-clutch robotized manual. Mechanically it has more in common with a traditional H-pattern.

I hear you. I used to drive a 300D to work when I was playing soccer afterwards. Driving a 3 pedal with sore legs is no fun. And anything with a monster engine also gets a pass.

as a mod, all I can say is that I saw the thread title and knew I wasn't interested in the subject, so never checked in ….

I really don't have any problem with deleting a post … I try to be as light handed as I can, and leave any and all posts alone … but occasionally ……

Until Per makes up a new forum rule that only applies to one person, then uses it to ban him.
?

There were three or four of us that had links to our businesses in our sig. When he was running the forum, he instituted a rule that links to businesses would no longer be allowed. Fine. I deleted mine, but nobody else did. So after a month or so, I put it back up to see what would happen. He banned me. I think I was gone for about a year before (I think) Joe told me I could join again if I wanted.

At least it was nicer than what he did to me at the challenge

We used to have a 'members' button that you could click on to see peoples posts and post count, leader board etc. But in one of the forum revisions it seems to have gone away. I went to the googlymoogly to look for Mguar, Snowdoggie and Dogooder. Snowdoggie is the only one who still appears to have posts left on here. BTW, I've got to agree with the Canuk's, no one but American's calls ham 'Canadien bacon' And they are just 'muffins' not 'English Muffins'. 'French toast' isn't from the cheese eating surrender monkeys, 'Swiss Chard' is just 'chard' and it's not from Switzerland. Russian dressing, German chocolate cake etc. etc. WTF is it with this country adding random country names to foods?

What do you call American cheese?

Dunno, I was sent the DVDs as a present. Big hit around my house, I think my wife has a thing for Oscar.

edit: On a serious note, I think part of the reason why there's a bunch of "NationName FoodItem" names for stuff is because of the melting pot nature of our society. "I love that tasty German style cake!" or "Those English style muffins are good" eventually become german cake and english muffins.

I think one of my favorite episodes was the one where Oscar had Wanda's Cordless Phone. Epic. Just epic.
