It is now illegal to be LBGT in Uganda. Words fail me.

Usually the people putting this sort of nonsense forward are sexually repressed in some way.

Neither do I, nor do I see the big deal if another country wants to make laws that are contrary to the laws where we live.

Really? Violating human rights is cool if they decide it's cool? Things that are fundamentally wrong are wrong no matter where they happen.

I'm sure they feel the same way.

But they're wrong, and it's OK to say so. I have this conversation with my kids. They come home from school spouting the crap idea that there is no wrong opinion. I ask them "what if your opinion is that black people aren't as good as white people?"
I understand that at least some people in Uganda have an opinion that is contrary to mine, that's how they end up with those laws, but they are still wrong.
Do we also have a thread about the Arizona thing?
In all reality, this is the big civil rights debate of these times.
Irish and immigrants, women's suffrage, persons of african descent, now GLBTs...
Same E36-M3, different decade.
Same kinda thing is going to happen.
How timely, we discussed this exact same thing in a class today! Not uganda and gay rights, but cultural relativism vs. human rights.

if the people of that country disagree, then they can do whatever it takes to change their own laws... maybe the people that are getting the raw deal could maybe move to someplace more forgiving of who they are..
but whatever happens, i don't want my government spending my money to try to change the people of another country with a different culture to make them more like us... it's not our business, and we've got our own things to worry about here.

hahaha! nice.
FWIW, it's almost legal for employers/business owners to practice homophobia in Arizona too.

In short, SB1062 would amend the existing Religious Freedom Restoration Act, allowing business owners to deny service to gay and lesbian customers so long as proprietors were acting solely on their religious beliefs.
I can almost hear the testimony now... "Wheelp yer honor, my client assumed all black and mexican lookin' berkeleyers was gay somehowz and so as a god fearin' man had no choice but to refuse" ...

Way to make a bigotted comment against people you consider bigots.

Ignoring the discrimination aspects of this, I am curious exactly HOW are they are determining WHO is homosexual?...
...only one way to be sure...
...it's like the old joke:
"how do you know your roommate is gay?",
"His D tastes like Sh#$"

yes, the people who want you to believe they are for -less- government intrusion into your lives are working hard to stick their noses into all parts of it.
