It seems as if mattress salesmen are the the new car salesmen. As soon as Jamaal flipped over his paper and started circling numbers, I felt like I was trying to buy a leftover '88 Pontiac.

I just dumped my old king mattress for a free sleep number bed. I'm not sure i like it, but it was free. I think a good foam mattress pad will make it suck less.

Cheap mattress and a 4 inch memory foam topper. I hate all salesmen. All of them. I don't even want the guy in home depot to help me find the right bolt.

Go to one of the warehouse clubs. No salesmen, decent mattress, decent price.

Or hit up your local Original Mattress Factory. Say, didn't we just have a thread about this?

I used to sleep on a waterbed. They cost about $100 and they were great for about a year and would start leaking. Used them for 15 years. They sleep great, but I got tired of waking up wet and swore off waterbeds.

So I went out and spent $1600 on a mattress. Ten years ago it was supposed to be one of the best in the business. It was great for about a year and the springs started sagging. So we put a 4" memory foam pad on it for another couple of hundred and it was great for another year or so.

Then I spent $600 on a mattress. It was great for about a year and a half and the springs started sagging. So we put another foam pad on top of it. It still sucks, just not as much.

Next is going to be a $300 mattress from some Chinese company. It'll probably last forever.

I recommend buying the cheapest thing you can find. It's probably going to suck after a year or two no matter what you spend.

My mattress is a 6" thick foam block on top of a box spring. It is awesome.

Got ours at Macy's. They seemed to have less-sleazy sales people than the mattress only stores. The mattress companies seem to give unique model numbers to different stores to prevent comparison shopping, boo to that!

Kingsdown. I've had one for about 11 years now and still find it to be very comfortable. I believe "How its made" went through their factory a few years ago too. I just looked at their site and it looks like they have some cool box springs with drawers in them too now.

We got a Tempur-Pedic 4 years ago and it is awesome. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Woody -

We found our best deal at the Sears in the Danbury mall. We went to the Sleepy's across the street and a comparable mattress was at least $200 more.

One thing that's maddening about mattress buying is that each store carries different models, so it's really difficult to cross shop.

Foam. Markups are berkeleying HUGE. We just bought a "gel top" foam mattress from the local folks who are the "scion" of furniture dealers. They do not discount. I went in with my hagglin' face on but was quickly shut down. My advice: You gotta sleep on the thing every night. berkeley springs. Buy a quality mattress. Enjoy.

I've got a memory foam right now I bought off of w00t for years ago... it's been great, comfort wise, but starting to sag in the middle.

My next one will be a DIY foam/latex setup. I've heard good things.

This. First thing I did out of post secondary was go to a store and literally lie on every single bed. $1700 later (oh yea, and $300 sheets as I sleep hot ), best bed I've ever slept on. And in another couple years, I'll gladly pay again. I don't mess around with my sleep.

Was in a really high-end shop in Toronto where they had a $10,000 mattress on display. I E36 M3 you not - ten grand. I said to my friend "I don't care if they kick me out – I gotta test drive this thing" and did a back flop onto it. Sure it was nice, but ten grand?

I have a $200 Walmart memory foam/foam rubber combo mattress. I've had it about 4 years now and it is still as great as the first day minus the funky new foam smell. It is bar none the most comfortable man made cushioned thing I have touched. It has no springs to go bad it's all just foam that goes back to it's original shape.

I have tried everything from high end mattresses to hammocks to waterbeds, and the discount made for a futon walmart number is where it's at

Totally a place like this in MN. 10k mattress was damn nice. I looked at it and went, I can buy like... 10 cars for this, or 5 challenge entries. pillow top on it was RETARDED thick.

Man I hope your joking.

A few weeks ago I spent two nights in a hotel. The mattress was Serta Tranquility Nights and hands down the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. I'm told this particular mattress is available to hotels only so I'm not sure how to get my own.

My Original Mattress Factory mattress I've had for 4 years is ok, but the springs are starting to sag despite being flipped regularly.

I have a nephew who sells high end beds at a shop in Toronto. Apparently, he sold a bed for $100K a few weeks ago.
