Hey, you're back!

I'm not sure what happened either, but I did notice you commented on another thread in this forum that had been attacked by spam-bots.  Due to the new account, it is possible that you may have been accidentally included with that clean up.

If you're ok with it, I would like to send you a private message about crossing the Ukrainian border.  I just had a few questions I thought you could answer, but didn't want to post it in the thread.

Thanks!

Next up, I had some stickers arrive.  I ordered these a couple weeks ago when I heard a Ukrainian Grandmother say the most bad ass quote I wish I never had to hear (it's the one about how the Russians should all put sunflower seeds in their pockets so something pretty will grow when they... well, you know).

The proceeds of the sale of these were supposed to go to Ukrainian refugees, but how much of the profits and to which organizations they go to, I cant say.  I just liked the sentiment, and wanted to show my support to anyone who might notice it.  I also added GRM stickers, if you guys hadn't noticed.  I figure you're funding this, you deserve the credit wink

The stickers in question were sold by Off Color Decals, a company I have done extensive business with and trust implicitly. If you don't like the skull they also have this one.

Proceeds are going to a small volunteer group called the Hospitallers a non-military medical battalion working in Ukraine.

Oh man the Hospitallers are one of my favorite organizations, how did I not know they were the beneficiary???  Here's a non facebook link for those interested:

https://www.hospitallers.life/needs-hospitallers

Hospitallers" is a volunteer paramedic organization. It was founded by Yana Zinkevych at the beginning of military action in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea and initiated warfare actions in the South of Ukraine with the assistance of the Russia-quasi-controlled forces.

Our key goals are:

  • Help to the wounded on the battlefield
  • Evacuation of the wounded to the hospitals
  • Help in the rehabilitation process
  • Transfer of the deceased to the burial site in Ukraine

The organization members are volunteers, who provide first medical aid at the frontline with the risk to their lives. For the time being, Hospitallers have completed more than 3000 evacuations.

Hospitallers do not receive support from the government and provide their assistance thanks to collaboration with volunteers and donations.

I'm actually starting a collection today locally that will run for approximately 2-weeks.  On April 9th, I'm scheduled to take any donated items from here in Papa to Warsaw, Poland where I'll meet with one of their members that I've gotten in contact with to take delivery.  From there it will be piped through their shipping network from Poland to wherever they need it in Ukraine.

Ok more good news.

Remember the family that took in the three students?  The third has been granted a work/residency permit for the UK and will work "Finance" in the outskirts of London!

They packed up and headed out sometime last week, and the family that took them in now has a family of 5 living with them.  Mom, dad, 15 year old girl, 10 year old boy, and a 3 year old boy.  Unfortunately none speak english or Hungarian this time so communication is difficult.  Yesterday they sent out a request for a bunch of items, clothing being one of them.  Well, sure enough I had a truck full of clothes that could be delivered:

And of course a soccer ball laugh

I dropped them off on my way to work, and will pick up what they don't need or use either tomorrow or the day after.  Anything left after that will go with me to Budapest on this next run and be donated to the Pastor in the 8th district so he can distribute them as necessary at the shelters.

I posted the sign below at my gallery show Friday morning and had two people react to it, one of Hungarian descent. I suspect both will be contributing from their attitudes.

I've just received the donation from the proceeds of the sale, thank you!

Due to the special nature of this one, I sent it to Mayor Kozma the second it hit my account with a note stating where it came from.

East bound and down!

The food, table, and cleaning supplies will be delivered to the student shelter in Budapest tomorrow morning, while the clothes, toys, and bedding will be delivered to our contact in the 8th district who will distribute them to the shelters as they are needed.

I have NEVER had my truck this full before, and was seriously considering taking out the seats to try to make more room laugh

On Saturday we've been invited to visit Mayor Kozma at his shelter in Kisgorbo for an event.  He says they'll have two therapy dogs on site as well as some personal trainers in the gym.  I think it'll be a good opportunity to visit the place and to see how things are going out that way.

I'll have to check those out later tonight, but I did have a question for you:

The Hungarians are famous worldwide for goulas (Goulash).  If we wanted to make the Ukrainian equivalent, what would it be?

And do you have a recipe for it so we can all give it a try?

Also, I did a thing at the store today:

There was a line at the produce scales so I moseyed on over to the seed section.  I bought every last packet of sunflower seeds Interspar had laugh

Now, I'm not sure if it will be appreciated or even if it's appropriate to add these to the donation we're making to the Hospitallers but I am 100% going to find out.

If you are not familiar that car is the Ghost Camaro, driven by Dansk Jægerkorpset operator Helge Meyer. When relief convoys headed into Bosnia during the Bosnian genocide of the early 90's were being attacked Meyer took it upon himself to build this up-armoured muscle car and make clandestine night time supply runs into the country.

An example of a single man taking it upon himself to do what good he could. Like the parable of the starfish, it may not make a difference in the large scale, but it matters to that one.

I'd like to think Bill has earned the right to display the rubber duck.
