No thread about this?

New episode last night. Their take on the presentors being truck drivers skit. Personally, I thought they did a decent job. I'm sure much of it was scripted - I seriously doubt their 'real' phones were destroyed and the car Tanner ran over was obviously a plant, but the interplay between the three is getting better.

Granted, I'm easily entertained...

They also took their rigs on the road, which TGUK didn't. I liked it overall, even thought I knew how badly it would end.

actually, this was season 3 wasnt it?

yeah so what if some of the stuff was obviously staged (particularly that planted car), to the casual observer, they see that and "holy E36 M3 he just hit a car!". its a fun show.

Finalgear has it listed as the ninth show of season two. I can see that.

I usually watch this show. I forgot and let the wife watch her biggest loser show.

I seem to be losing interest.......

Ah. Wikipedia is calling it season 3.

I didn't bother because I thought it was a rerun. Didn't realize they had actually moved the show to tuesday and it was a new episode.

Will catch on the interwebs. Wanted to watch, but had nasty paperwork stuff that kept me busy until midnight.

I think Ian is right on:

  • Better interaction between the three
  • More comfortable on screen
  • Pretty contrived, but still pretty good
  • Could have been better but still good

I enjoyed it.

The scripted parts are easy to spot, but its still funny.

Netflix has it for you new-fangled streaming people.

It wasn't bad, but it was still mediocre. Mrs. Javelin watches all of the TG UK episodes with me, but has only liked about 3 of the TG US ones (Alaska 4x4 trip, 1st cars, and the Dually shootout). The regurgitated ones are lame, they should stick to the original ideas.

When Adam (I think?) was talking about how often you have to shift, I was wondering if he was going to throw in something about murdering prostitutes, but alas, he didn't.

The episode was OK, the show overall is improving and has reached the "not too bad" stage in my opinion.

It didn't really surprise me they were out on the road. I'm guessing after their minimal instruction they got CDL learner's permits and had an instructor in the passenger seat who wasn't filmed. I'll assume UK training requires more instruction before you're allowed on public roads. Given how much more room US roads typically have, I don't think that's out of line.

Adam seemed particularly funny in this episode and how it would all end seemed pretty obvious... but then again, how the UK version ended was no surprise either.

I'm guessing there's and inside joke about UK truckers and prostitutes that might not have gone over as well over here.

I believe you can stream the episodes off the History Channel website.

I'd say better than last year. Clearly a contrived story. Did anyone else notice their police escort in the background when they supposedly had to make an emergency stop b/c Rutledge's truck was on fire?

That said, it was entertaining and as a bonus, was filmed about 20 miles from home, so much of the scenery was familiar.

Of course. And if you noticed, they filmed that sequence on a stretch of road off the highway. I'm sure the fire truck was already standing by.

Hazmat cannot be hauled on a learners permit. It needs a special endorsement. So many laws would have been broken if they didn't have an escort.

Think it might be illegal to haul an open flame with explosives?

Yes, staged but fun. The challenges are entertaining, but I hope they do some other stuff as well.

I still loved the duallie challenge Tanner yelling "AMERICA! AMERICA! AMERICA" as he's donutting around the other two. LOVE that clip. Hopefully we get more of the same.

Stupid German laws won't allow that to show up.

Call it season 2.5

I got off work at nine, so I caught the repeat at one, and caught the Justified repeat at 11. Staged, yes, but what television isn't?

Still loving it.

the preview for next week's episode showed a brief clip of what appeared to be some epic high speed ford mustang drift action.
