Sporting director Peter Windsor has named NASCAR's Kyle Busch as an ideal driver for the new USF1 team in 2011.

Windsor, who with Ken Anderson aims for their Charlotte-based team to debut next season, said he keeps up to date with the 24-year-old's progress "on a daily basis almost".

"If I was Kyle, I'd be saying to myself, yeah, those guys all talk the talk, let's see what they do, let's see what the car's like. Let's see what the race shop is like. Fair enough," he told USA Today.

Windsor revealed that he has already met with Busch's business team, and is confident his talents would transfer to Formula One.

"If he wants to jump in our car next year for doing some demonstrations here in the States, he's very welcome to do that," he added.

Busch is under contract to his Sprint Cup team Joe Gibbs Racing until the end of 2010.

Marco Andretti, the son of 1993 McLaren driver Michael and the grandson of 1978 world champion Mario, has also been linked with USF1, but the team is likely to make its plans for 2010 without an American driver.

"It's not because I don't rate him (Andretti), but I don't think he'd be right driver at the right time, or equally that we're the right team," said Windsor.

I dunno. While F1 drivers have made the transition to NASCAR, I don't see the reverse happening too much. The different nature of "bumper" cars compared to open wheeled racers is critical. The first time Kyle's instincts cause him to put the squeeze play on another car, somebody's likely gonna end up airbourne. Plus, drafting is entirely different with the F1 areodynamics. Kyle's nature might find him drafting way too close.. he'll lose his front wing air, and the resulting lack of downforce will have him off the track toot sweet.

Having said all that, I wish him the best of luck if he does get a shot.

I think he can learn the difference quickly enough. He's on a very short list of drivers that seem to be fast in anything he gets into.

Who'd want to take the pay cut?

Me too. Any yankee in F1 gets my support.

Kyle would do F1 good. Just look what he has done for NASCAR.

Without TONS of money I'm not sure why anyone would want USF1.

They'd lose contacts and possibly contracts with established race venues to go to a team that may or may not make it? I'm not sure it will be around for very long.

With the snowball's chance in hell they're already going to have, why make it worse with Kyle Busch?

NASCAR is where real drivers go for semi-retirement, to pad their portfolios and have a comfortable retirement.
