So, because I am a berkeleying moron, i dumped about 3 gallons of gas on my shop floor. Floor is about 1 year old vct tile of unknown manufacturer that i got from habitat for humanity. No way to match it, and not enough leftover to patch it.
Middle third of the shop has the edges curling on almost every tile. We got the spill up quickly as possible, but...
Is there a way to repair it without replacement?
If not, what am i looking at to change to a porcelain tile floor with no grout lines for a smooth surface?
Or is it best to go back with a more readily available vct tile and just change the color/pattern?
I presume you have a perfectly adequate concrete floor under the tiles that have no place in a working shop...
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Replacement of VCT is super easy. Installing porcelain tile is not.
Can you do a block in the middle third of the floor in an intentionally different color?
In reply to Streetwiseguy:
I have a very discolored concrete floor under it. Vct is much nicer to lay on and easier to clean. Did a bunch of research before laying it down. Unfortunately, no research turned up its susceptibility to brake clean and gas.
SVreX: its a thought. Its in consideration. Is there any concerns about getting the old adhesive off the flior, or do I trowel more overtop and run it home?
I really like this color and pattern. Im hoping for a way to save most of the damaged area, but im not holding my breath.
Once VCT is damaged and curled up it really can't be repaired. Fortunately it is easy to replace and yes if you pull up the old tiles and there is old adhesive on the floor you can skim fresh over it.
Fortunately VCT is nice and cheap.
So I found the manufacturer of the tile. 5 bucks a square foot.
So, replacing with the exact same will be more expensive than redoing the whole thing.
Since I have cabinets and such built in ove top of the existing floor, what is my best course of action going forward? I am thinking that i will be removing everything that is not trapped and replacing, but don't want to make things harder than it needs to be....
$5 per piece for VCT??! Go to LowesDepot, it should be 73 cents per piece.
I wouldn't replace too much in a garage, a central patch shouldn't be too unattractive.
Exactly. Around 60 cents each here.
Im trying to make it a nice place. I guess for the time being a different pattern/color in the middle won't be too bad. But eventually I will redo it all. So what am i looking at for that time?
Leave a 3' or whatever border of the odl stuff around the outside?
I had not considered that!!
Can i remove and reinstall undamaged tiles? That way i can get the whole border the same?

If they are reasonably freshly installed, maybe... Generally they come up in pieces though.
Cool. Thanks guys. Theres a reason i came here for advice.
We'll see what happens...
