On the American news.
My father's g/f was taking riding lessons in the UK when mad cow broke out. Because she was in the UK, and in the area where mad cow was running rampent, she is forbidden from giving blood.
I am not a vegetarian.. but the older I get.. the less appetising red meat looks.

so you don't eat any dead plants?

We gotta look out for our beef industry ya know.
Like all those super-dangerous Toyotas that we got here in the states right after we all "invested" big in GM. Hey, didja hear? They are back on top!
Ah yes, marketing hype. 'Vegetarian eggs' are marketed the same way luxury cars are, only this is to make Little Miss Organic Everything feel superior to the rest of the great unwashed. Just like so called 'free range chicken, 100% cruelty free'.
Bring me another steak! My body is not a graveyard, but my plumbing is.

It's all true - they die of joy during a snuggle.
One other question this raises: Since chickens are not naturally vegetarian, is depriving them of meat animal cruelty?

Thats exactly how I like my steak! I knew I fit in here!

That the distillation process was done without the use of a long list of chemicals, and that the water was not contaminated with those same chemicals.
Organic is a copyrighted word owned by USDA, and it comes with a fascinating long list of requirements. I was doing organic eggs, util USDA nationalized the program some years ago. Now it's big business, with all the horrible recordkeeping and bizzare exceptions.
Due to those requirements is why my honey cannot be certified "organic". I can't control what fields my bees go out to buzz in. They can lick nectar from a pesticide sprayed field.
I get a chuckle from vegetarians that won't eat "defenseless" animals.
I was unaware that a head of lettuce was capable of running away.

Of course not, we obviously know what is best.
I raise chickens. I can assure you, the last thing you want is a true free range bird. Those drumsticks would be inedible.

CHICKENsnuggler.

Not at all. You miss the point of the thread 100%. It has nothing to do with what anybody eats.

Our chickens are free-range. They taste like chicken. By free-range, I mean they are free to roam about during the day, they go into the coop at night, they eat bugs.

I don't understand vegitarianism at all and personally think it's silly. But, that's my opinion and I don't knock anyone for not eating meat. I do crack up though with all these *-vegetarians out there. If you eat an animal product, you are not a vegetarian. I love it when one of my wife's hippy-wannabe friends says she is a vegetarian "but I eat chicken, fish, butter, milk, eggs, ...."

I did it once, and never again. Most of the meat was fine, but the legs were so tough and rubbery, you couldn't eat them. That, and they took too long to mature, and ate WAY too much. My feed costs went crazy.
I keep them in a coop now, but not caged.
mad_machine wrote: wow.. you guys are pretty hostile to those of us who do not eat red meat
It is all the testosterone in the meat. Sometimes when ordering I'll involuntarily gunt-punch the waitress for suggesting coleslaw or non-fatal animal products like cheese.
It is a disease really. I need help.
Is it me or are mass produced commercial eggs getting thinner shells but thicker membranes on the inside? Use to be a time you cracked an egg and it cracked now I have to crack it and them split it open.
