If you are looking for a cool, once in a lifetime thing to do, check out the Henry Ford Museum. They have a really cool exhibit calle "Take a Peek Under Our Hoods".
They are lifting the hoods of over 50 cars so you can take a good look-see. Some of the cars that you'll be able to drool over:
1919 Model T
1923 “Copper Cooled” Chevrolet
1924 Doble Model E
1931 Duesenberg
1931 Bugatti Royale
1932 Ford hot rod
1933 Willys “Gasser”
1943 Willys Jeep
1949 Volkswagen
1956 Chrysler 300B
1960 Chevrolet Corvair
1960 Meskowski
1964 Chrysler Turbine
1965 Goldenrod
1967 Ford Mark IV Le Mans
I mean, how many of these would I ever see in person, let alone being able to take a look at the engines!
They also have shuttle service to and from the NAIAS.
OOOH!! and I'll be at NAIAS next weekend

Well I'm not from Michigan originally, but I live there now and love it. I feel sorry for those who have had to leave due to the economy, but seriously it's a great place to be.
