I'm on my own for dinner tonight, wonder if I can find one of these deals and not wait an hour for a table? (I tried one year and couldn't even get into the Golden Corral lot it was so packed.)

Corned beef, glazed carrots and saute'd brussel sprouts at home.
I appreciate the free meals for Veterans, but I pass.
I'd probably cook for you or any other vet today, or whenever y'all wanted some good chow. I like to see people enjoy food. Tonight it's made from scratch (pasta and all) acorn squash ravioli with ricotta cheese and a parmesan/garlic sauce.

Most places are cool with a hat, but a few want some form of an ID card, or a photo of you when you were active duty.
http://militarybenefits.info/veterans-day-discounts-sales-deals-free-meals/ has the best list of national meals. Applebee's and Olive Garden are always the most popular (I just got back from Applebee's where I ate with a Gunny that went to Iraq twice and held the door for a WWII Vet). Applebee's has bar seating if your solo. Most Vets are happy for you to just crash their table (I crashed a USMC table and was welcomed with open arms).
I got out more than 40 yrs ago, no ID card …
I think there's a pic of me in uniform around here somewhere … but I do have a copy of my DD214 … and I think my dog-tags are in a drawer somewhere
FYI Vets: A VA ID card is free and gets you a leg-up on being in their health care records for when you get older and want to utilize VA health care.
I know it is not exactly what you meant but meals for a Vet got me thinking about this...
Locally, they put this Aviation Museum at the regional airport.
On site, there is an authentic diner.
A huge hit with the Vets at the diner is the breakfast special of S.O.S served on a genuine sectioned tin tray.
I stopped at Applebee's on the way home, crowded but no wait for the bar. In and out in 20 minutes, left $5 for my tea. (So I either tipped 20% or 100% depending on how you look at it.)
I called ahead, since my DD214 was at home. They said they're pretty lenient as long as it was eat-in. I had my cell with Facebook profile photo and dog tag on my keychain just in case.

I sat at the bar, and ended up chatting with a few vet's ranging from late 20's to probably 70's. Pretty cool.

Bingo! Good for you!
Tried to go to the Mission BBQ (something like 40% off or something) and the line was out the door so I just went to the local Pizza joint and took my slices down to the Korean memorial park and ate in positive solace with my brothers+sisters of past and present, also watched some dude in a dingy with a sail try to get out of the initial chop lol

Your SOS is a little thin.
When I got to applebees last night they asked if anyone in out party was a vet. Thankfully my wife didn't notice the empty table at the door for fallen soldiers until we left.
One of my wife's best friend and her husband went all over town yesterday getting free meals wherever they could. Thes are the same people that will fuss about a meal until they get a free desert. I will no longer go out with them.

Well, it's within the rules of each restaurant. Funnily enough, at the Applebee's I was at, maybe 1/4 of the Vets actually got the free meal, everybody else was buying whatever they wanted. Everybody was buying drinks and leaving good tips.

I know one of those. Same guy that will rant about welfare handouts and freebies to "those damn freeloaders".
