Wow. Just wow. 
If you ever want to be humbled, start reading through the citations for servicemen who've been awarded the VC or the Medal of Honor. These men lived (or live) their lives according to a higher code. Glad to see this Hero got the recognition he so richly deserved.
What one has to do to be awarded a medal like that is beyond contemplation.

I was lucky enough to have served with and known several Marines who were awarded the Navy Cross (one step below the Medal of Honor). They are, to a man, the quietest professionals I've ever known. Some of them survived the action that resulted in their award. A few of them did not. I thank God daily that such men exist.
