Visiting the parents last week and spent some time digging through the past. I don't remember too much about this toy, when I got it, etc., but I had stowed it in a sneaker box and put it on a shelf in the closet. Guessing it was made in the early 1970's. No markings of any kind. Pretty cool in that the barrel contains a spring and a plunger that can fire the attached lightweight plastic projectiles maybe two or three feet. Probably considered a lethal threat today. LOL.
Anyone care to guess as to what tank it's modeled after? Brand? Year of manufacture? Anything. Just curious.

Yup. That's it, but for color. Blue-gray and orange is a weird combo for a tank.
You're good at this. I spent some time looking, and found nothing close.
Looks kind of like the British AS90 Braveheart. There aren't many with the turret at the rear.
I remember as a kid in the summer of 1989 getting a toy almost like that when I was visiting family in Italy. The one I got looked nearly identical, but instead of shooting shells, it came with a little army figure that sat in the top. It wound up and would simulate shooting and the turret would recoil. I also remember it taking a tumble down a particularly long flight of stairs that summer in Italy during a "battle".
Looks a lot like the M55.
