I still remember the surprise I had when I saw my first franken-volvo. I need to learn more about these swaps . . .
Greg was foolish/brave enough to let me drive it the day after he bought it.
I've been looking for an LS kit for the Benz ever since. Big honking wagons need big honking V8s.
edit- D-bird...is that 2nd shot in-camera HDR? Crazy exposure, cool pic!
[Greg, feel free to correct me here if I got something wrong, or to add details. Again, thank you for letting me tag along. It was a blast]
That's from our MSCC event yesterday. I'm riding shotun in those pics, and it felt about 100 times as awesome as it looked. That wagon was the most fun I've had in a car in years.

Yes, there was an epic amount of oversteer on that run. That picture appears to have been taken while we were in the wagon wheel....I had the biggest, cheesiest grin afterwards.
Greg said it was professionally converted back in 1996 [edited for accuracy - JM] by the same guy who did the drive train swaps for Paul Newman's volvos. The original conversion had an automatic, it has since been given a manual and an engine rebuild with a mild cam....I'm sure there were some other goodies, too. It rumbled/shook with power.
My weekend summary: Wagons FTW!!!

Yeah thats me. I bought it two weeks ago for $3000. It looks nicer than it is since you cant see the rust in the photos. I was trying to get it for challenge money but after driving it and being shot down I decided it was worth the asking price. It settles my want for a V8 and is much cheaper than a CTS-V or GTO.
It was swapped in 1996 @ 136,000 miles by http://www.converse-engineering.com/ . Originally it had a stock 5.0 and an auto. Purchased in 1999 by Phillip Pan who made it into the monster it is today. He started the V8 section on brickboard.com poured a lot of love and money into the car. He gave me the reciepts from the original swap and about $6k in the recent motor and trans build from 2001. It is just a basic 302 with aluminum heads, cobra intake, a mild cam and exhaust. It has IPD sways and Bilsteins but stock spring hence the body roll. Also added were Corbeau seats an LSD and poly bushings in the rear. It now has like 246,000 or so and pulls like a freight train.
The only real plans are to hopefully patch some of the rust, get some stiffer springs and ad a hitch. Oh and tires. Already roasted my first set. Stock it was rated at 3500 so I figure with a light weight trailer I should be able to tow around my RX-7's.
Thanks for the compliments guys and Dirtybird for posting the pics. He caught me after getting in too hot and trying to "drift" the 360 turn. Later in the run I ran over two cones when I hit the gas and brake at the same time. Smooth moves I tell you.
Pure sweetness....
Just in case you wanna....you know....go nuts or something:

Picked up a set of 16 inch turbo twist style stock wheels off a 91 940 from the junkyard today. Also POR 15d some rust and got disappointed about just how rusty the car is. I give it another 5 years before it trys to grow into the ground.
2nd shot i just adjusted the mid tones a little bit, other than that it's how it came out in the camera lol. Greg that was def the coolest car I've seen all year. I've been hounding my ex-girlfriends father to sell me his mid-80s 240 sedan to do an LS1 swap in, but he loves it and refuses to sell it. The only reason I want his is that he's the original owner.
Looks like I'm going to be getting some new BFG KDWs for pretty cheap. Then it will need springs badly. I want some springs I can tow with but unfourtunately IPDs tech recommendation was to not recommend towing a car with it and not to exceed 300lb tounge weight.
Any ideas?
Dolly would be fine aside from having to pull the driveshaft and drain the trans every time I want to tow one of the RX-7s. Really I can't see going much more than 12 hours or so (up to DC) Mostly to local tracks and up to Road Atlanta.
Any reason you can't put the RX-7 on the tow dolly backwards? Just put some tall skinnys on the front. I towed my BMW 7 over 200 miles that way. A whole lot easier than pulling the driveshaft.
