Most likely for the same reason that some jurisdictions are not allowing voting "selfies" - to prevent someone selling a vote. Without a photo or witness, no way to prove the elector voted as they said they would, which at least in theory means free choice.

Personally, I'm 100& for allowing a minor child to be in the booth with their parent if the parent wishes it.

And I am legally mandated to 'maintain order' at my polling place every year per PA state code... Been watching elections for over 12 years now.

That is precinct and age of the child dependent.

If you make a little noise I am sure that won't happen next time.

The soft rule at our stations is 15 years old. Older than that they have to sign an affidavit saying they are allowed in the both with them. (corrected for accuracy)

It is the same affidavit that is signed for elderly people that need help voting.

Talk about dumb voting rules, in SC liquor stores are closed on election day. It may only be the major elections, and I'm not positive this still happens, but I know it did in the past. Not that I care. Seems people used to buy votes with shots of liquor.

And yet in most (or all?) places in the US, it's legal to take a selfie in the voting booth (showing your ballot or anything else). Doesn't seem smart to me, seems like it could enable vote buying.

Because nobody could ever plan ahead and buy the day before the election. I hate stupid laws (see also not being able to buy alcohol on sunday).

So I am assuming you are now fully in favor for separation of church and state since they are the ones responsible for said no alcohol on Sunday rule.

Must be a precint rule.

Voted last week here in texas with my 2.5 year old son in tow or arms and everyone was nothing but nice to him. He's been coming for the last 2 years.

Want him to learn and see the process.

I'd rather teach my kids about the voting process.

Yeah that's dumb. My daughter sat at the table and went through every check box with me. We read the voters pamphlet together, and she was asking how the bubbles worked for counting and whatnot. She learned a lot about how it works, and why we picked the choices we did. WA is all through the mail now.

I always have been in favor of it. My opinion of faith based organizations is pretty much that of Mr. George Carlins.

Read the laws. Voting is dumb and outdated. The whole electoral process is crap. So I propose a new solution, that will never get off the ground.

Social Security Number lottery. Random number generator pulls 9 numbers, that person is elected. Replace elections for congress, senate, and president with this system. The IRS has everyones SSN anyway, so maybe narrow the age range to 30-70, otherwise leave everything else open. Race, gender, career, gross income(actually, no, cut out everyone making $10 million plus per year), none of that matters. And kids really could "grow up to be president" like everyone tells their kids anyway.

BOOM! no more career politicians, no more corporations buying politicians, no more 2 year long billion plus dollar wasting campaigning, no more family dynasties. Most importantly NO MORE BERKING POLITICAL ADS EVERYWHERE.

Will we get wack jobs in office? Of course. Will they be any worse than any "elected" official since forever? Highly doubtful. Will the average working man actually benefit from the average working man being in office? More than likely. And all the money that is normally wasted on campaigning, can actually be put to a better use. Plus, having one less thing to fight about as a population would probably open a lot of eyes to problems that really deserve the frustration and anger elections bring out in everyone. Like government spying on civilians, the ridiculous amounts of lead and contaminants in water supplies, and getting away from the Federal Reserve.

I predict that this would lead to opting in and out. That's fine. You don't want to do it, you'll be granted a right to refuse, and another drawing will be held. If by some bizarre lightening strike someone is pulled twice, another drawing gets held. Becoming president removes your SSN from the pool.

It's thoughts like these that kept me out of the really fancy schools I guess.

From what I remember living there, any excuse to stop the same of alcohol was a good excuse. Although I loved the"private" clubs who were the only ones that could sell on Sundays. You could also join the club at the door for no fee.

That's still going on where you can't buy liquor on Sunday. Slowly though, its changing. Lots of cities have voted it in and maybe even some counties. Year ago you had to drive to the NC state line to buy beer on Sunday.

I don't remember if I can buy liquor on election day or not.. It's a state store, and all the other state things are operating on the big day, so I'd assume so?

It's finally getting to the point you only need to go to 2 stores to throw a party. Kind of. If you can find a grocery store that managed to get their hands on a beer permit, and if you only need a 12 pack(i think) at a time. And it's still a separate checkout area. On the plus side, a pizza shop that applies and manages to get the permit, can deliver a 12 pack until until close or 2am, whichever comes first.

Someday PA will catch on to the rest of the states and allow beer and liquor sales everywhere. Maybe by the time my grandchildren are my age.

yes.

You know there has been only two caught voters frauds that fall under the identification process.

They were both white Trump supporters.

Yeah, Ille...undocumented immigrants voting is the problem.

If anyone has any issues with voting laws please contact your local state government representative.

All voting laws are written by states and follow federal guidelines (no discrimination, no poll taxes, ect.)

Tuesday is D day. I will be working the polls from open to close all day. See you at the polls

In Virginia (again your state may vary) the State's Attorney General has issued an opinion that selfies ARE PERMITTED as long as they do not cause a delay and do not include other people (using it as a method to record other people voting or votes)

It would, of course, be impossible to catch anyone at identification voter fraud if there were no identification requirements. Duh.

I'm calling BS, mostly because I've asked illegal immigrants I work with (excuse me, undocumented workers), and they admit to knowing people who have done it. 60-70% of the people I work with are undocumented, and I've asked many times. Always get the same answer (once I establish trust with them).

Might as well lock it up, folks.
