Since I am DD the Rabbit I wanted to get a clean key since it is in rough shape and 7 years old. I ordered an empty key body from deautokey and it was a perfect match. I disassembled the old key and moved over the remote electronics, tested and it worked perfect. Then I went to remove the key and immobilizer chip from the top half of the remote, the key was easy but after messing with the chip for a while I ended up cracking it.
We had a spare key for it so I am still able to drive it. But now the chip is toast so I went to the local car key place and they said the vw chip cannot be cloned. The dealer wants $200 for a whole new key since they don't sell the just chip.
The place I ordered the key body has chips but it doesn't state if they are compatible with an 07 Rabbit. Does anyone know if this will work or if there is a chip I can get somewhere that will work?
