18-wheeler, Honda cited for drag racing
SLIDELL — Police cited the driver of an 18-wheel-gas-tanker truck on drag racing, Slidell Police reported Wednesday.
They also cited the driver of a 1995 red Honda Accord on drag racing after clocking the two vehicles going more than 80 mph on Old Spanish Trail Tuesday night, according to a police press release.
A detective began chasing the vehicles after the truck, which was followed by the Honda, turned from Pontchartrain Drive onto Third Street “at a very high rate of speed,” according to the release.
The drivers said they raced after talking about how fast their vehicles could go, the release said.
Craig Smith, 33, of Kenner, said the gas trailer was empty, according to police.
Police cited Smith, 33, and Brandon Tanks, 19, of Slidell, on drag racing which carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail or a fine of up to $175, the release said.
Capt. Kevin Foltz said the tank truck was in the lead when the detective stopped the vehicles.

An empty tanker? Even of fumes? Fumes are the part that ignite easily.
Losing your CDL must suck.

talk about a wide range of outcomes.
You know, forget putting people for things like this in jail. In jail, they won't make money, and cost the tax payers money. Give them a real fine. $1000. Done.

Nice kill by the truck. Is Honda boy going to go to Dominoes and get those two big bottles of laughing gas.

The truck was in the lead? Wow.
^ How do you explain that to your ricer buddies? You got spanked by a semi with trailer. "Dude, I was just about to hit the naaaaawwws when the popo lit me up man." Seriously... maybe it's time to rethink your "racecar" of choice.
I lived in Slidell for a year and a half. Slidell is truely The Armpit of the World, and I've been around the world 3 times, so I know what I'm talking about. Drag racing down the main drags there doesn't surprise me one bit. Place hasn't changed at all in 30 years. I thought that Katrina had wiped it clean, but apparently they rebuilt the place. Oh well.
^ Having spent almost 3 years at Ft. Polk, there is not much in LA that does not fit the description. The food on the other hand
No more CDL, no more job. Dumb ass.
While I in no way endorse street racing, humiliating some wing-equipped ricer by pwning him in a Honda Pilot from 0-70 is pretty hilarious...and I'm pretty sure can not accurately be described as "racing."
Some of those rigs are fast and the kids v-tec needs a fart can to really open er up .
