Im now convinced that walmart is not accidentally overcharging for random items. This year I have had the same issue probably 10 times. I buy an item, I know whats its listed price is, then at checkout where I become an honorary walmart employee and ring up my own items, I see the item scans for higher than the advertised price. Never less than.
This morning I made a quick stop at everyone's favorite store to begrudgingly shop at. I only needed milk and dogfood. I ended up seeing an item my brother was looking for and grabbed it. Martinellis sparkling apple juice. 4 pack for $5.56. Rings up for over 16$

so check those prices or you are going to get screwed.
Is it higher than the price label on the shelf or the online price? I think there is a "footnote" on the website that says it shows the online price and the in store price may be different.
No, its higher than the price on the shelf.
a few months ago i was going to get my son a rubixs cube.they had it on an end cap, full rack of them proudly priced at $.6xx with extra large numbers. cheaper than amazon so i figured cool, i'll grab one. It rang up for almost 13$.

I've never been to a store that makes it as difficult to do business with them as Wal-Mart.
The last time I set foot in a Wal-Mart was when I learned they went to 100% self checkout.
I left my cart, walked out and never went back.
In reply to ShawnG :
In Jacksonville they closed the self checkouts. Seems that free labor isn't as good as their own employees.

A number of stores have been closing self checkouts due to the high rate of shoplifting at them.
As for 100% self-checkout, I guess that walmart didn't sell booze? Here in CA they all have at least beer and the state says you can't sell alcohol at a self-checkout.

Ralphs has self checkout which goes pretty quick , but if you want booze you need to go to regular checkout , same California state law.

Definitely.
The irony around the whole self-checkout thing is that it seems there are always employees "monitoring" the area so you don't brazenly steal stuff. It's not hard to feel that they could actually be doing something useful like ring up customers' orders! It's nice when stores offer a reasonable mix of both manned and self-checkouts. 100% self-checkout feels like a big F. U. to the customer.

WalMart Plus Scan-and-Go is apparently amazing.

In states without that law, the checkout locks up, displays a code or message to verify your id and turns on the overhead light to notify an employee to check on you. You can't continue to check out until an employee enters their code and clears the message.
In reply to TJL (Forum Supporter) :
Did you then become an honorary Wal Mart manager and fix it?

BJs wholesale has something similar.
I scan my items as I go with my phone, clip any coupons electronically, and then use Apple Pay to finish the transaction. The door person scans a barcode on my phone and spot checks my work by scanning a couple items.
People in line just looks at me like WTF as I walk past them and head right to the door with my full cart.

Lol there are a bunch of states that you either can't buy any alcohol or only buy beer and wine at regular grocery stores. In VA you can do self checkout with beer and wine (liquor state controlled but seems to be much lower priced compared to a few neighbors) but need to have an employee check your ID and complete the transaction. How they do this varies by store and is primarily a corporate or local management issue, the good ones (90% of stores) seem to activate a light a ping an employee to come by while letting you keep scanning stuff.
For the higher price things, I haven't seen any blatantly upcharging but have seen a lot or ones recently where items are like 3 for $6 items and stuff that you used to be able to get 2 for $2 each that now you have to buy 3 to get the discount.
We did go to town at kroger a couple years back when they had lobster tails listed at $5/lb that rang up as be $5/each. Walked back to seafood and they honored the listed price. Grabbed like 6 with my roommate at the time and cooked them up with some friends.

I was surprised the first time I heard they don't take Apple Pay or the Android equivalent. You need to use cash, card, or Walmart app.
I noticed that once, too. A difference of $0.15. I figured, berk it, I'm in a hurry. 15 cents, big deal. But rip off every single customer for 15 cents, compounded, that's a healthy chunk of change.

I could understand a difference of a few cents, but that's pretty dramatic. Did you talk to a manager, and if so did they correct the price?

I've never been more convinced Steve isn't actually human. You're doing a pretty good job blending in, but breathing 72% Nitrogen must suck.

It's just another store.
Stopped at a gas station for gas (crazy, I know) and a tea. The tea is marked 2.79 so I wait in line and get up and he says 3.19 so I said it's 2.79 plus tax and he swings the screen around to show it's 2.99 plus tax. He said Berkeley it scrapes some Pennie's out of the dish and waved me out. Seems like the prices should be checked more regularly
