Bass virtuoso Stu Hamm is currently touring with equally talented guitarist Alex Skolnick: http://truefiretv.net/sites/stuhamm/?p=581
The tour kicked off last night, and I made the cross-Florida trip to see it. Amazing. I saw the two of them perform together in New York a year or so ago, and this reaffirmed that it was one of the coolest performance I had seen.
This is Stu Hamm: https://youtu.be/u_yeYrTZZ4U
And you can see Skolnick here--and if you look closely, you'll see me in the audience: https://youtu.be/B81K2qKF-1M
I got to see them in the early 90's and it was amazing. Stu had been kind of out of the scene for a while, but seems to really be back in top form now.
He's a heck of a showman, too. It was just a fun evening. Bummed that the second date on the tour was up in Atlanta. If it was closer to home, I would have hit two shows on this run.
And some video I found on Skolnick's last visit to Florida: https://youtu.be/1RdR4c28IKM
That was a killer show, too. Well, until it rained and they announced that we had to leave the grounds less we get swept into the Atlantic. Testament was cut short. Fortunately the weather cooperated so Suicidal Tendencies and Slayer got to do their full sets.
those guys are great.
I got introduced to Stu Hamm's playing because I cut my guitar-teeth on Satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream,
and later heard Alex on a Testament album I borrowed from my brother around that same time.
fantastic skills they have.
