Three Pedal Mafia is looking for someone, likely a bit mentally ill, to join us for 24 Houds of Lemons Halloween Hooptiefest at NHMS the weekend before Halloween.
Here are our cars:
You know what it is: Crapcan racing, a weekend of incredible fun and a ton of seat time, and probably the best time you have had all year. We will arrive late Thursday night, probably run both cars in testing day on Friday, and race all day Saturday and Sunday. The track has a bunch of fun events planned to go with us, like potato cannon, pumpkin chuckin, etc, and the evenings festivities are sure to be epic given the holiday.
People: We currently have a 4 member core team, with a great group of others who have run with us for multiple races in the past, and some who have come and help build the cars. Everyone has been great, and all of them are always welcome back, because they “get it”. Our team works because of attitude, everyone gets along, everyone contributes to the best of their skill set to the varied needs of the team, and we are all team players, racing for fun, while trying to do as well as we can.
Cars: We have a 91 Honda Civic Wagovan, lots of rust, with the very obscure 4WD system, with plenty of NLA parts. It is reliable, comfortable, easy to drive, handles very well, but has been fairly slow. Never missed a beat in the races, track days, and testing days over the course of 6 races. We keep it alive by having a reasonable redline and some other tricks. For this race, we will have it turbocharged at 5psi to try to get some more power, without blowing it up. The downside of the turbo is that there is much more to go wrong, but if it works, this should be one of the faster cars on the track. This will probably be re-themed from the current "dustbuster" to a bumper car, done right, to poke fun at the unusual amount of contact that there was at Summit Point this year.
Secondly, we have…the BOAT! A 94 Chevy S10 with a 71 Sea Sprite 16’ boat on top. This is the beloved Index Of Effluency winner. It is a complete riot. It is more work than the Civic to drive, but moves pretty well considering, as we have some suspension mods, 245 width tires, bigger brakes, and it has the 4.3 and 5 spd stock. It won’t be the fastest, but one of the most fun, and actually stands a chance in C class, or for some other award. Re-theme of the boat will add a flybridge, fishing rods, etc for New England Yacht Club, for our New England race location.

How we roll: We have wont two IOEs, have a good history of clean driving, have a good reputation with the Judges (We’ve judged several times) and others, and want to keep it that way, while having a great time. Our mechanical skill varies from pretty good fabricators to people with basic mechanical skills. Everyone has been improving in their skills with a wrench as we build the cars, and everyone will help to the best of their ability and have others around for direction, and we usually all stay busy. We aren't ultra competitive people, but like to do well, but have a great time while doing it. Keeping the car in one piece and turning laps is our ultimate priority, so shifting a bit short of redline and giving up a corner to some overcompetitive asshat is the norm: he can crash as he overdrives and we keep turning laps, this is an endurance race. We have a team RV, a tow vehicle or three, and a new flatbed trailer. We stay at the track, bring plenty of great food and booze, have a great tailgaiting/track camping setup. We have a nice setup, great group, and just have a great time. Of everyone we have ever had drive with us, nobody has ever had a bad time, everyone has come back, and even started their own teams to race with us. I can provide references, even other GRMers.
We typically find that a race costs about $800 all in once the car is built (before that is WAY more, and the cost is all front loaded), which includes not only the car and getting it there, but consumables, tires, food/booze, Lemons fees, testing day, etc, so that’s what we charge people, and what we provide. We always run testing day to shake the cars down, get more seat time for everyone. With 4 people/car there is guaranteed to be plenty of seat time, and if one car breaks permanantly, there will be seat time in the other. Both cars are mechanically fairly simple with good parts availability, and we have some spares to keep them going. My point being, this is not a basic level of racing, we try to run the best race possible (though don't expect to win), and give a lot for the cost as that’s how we like to roll ourselves.
The only things you need to take care of yourself is your driving equipment (we have 2 DefNders that you can use in the car if you have or buy the helmet clips), some sort of lodging/tent/whatever (staying at the track is very highly recommended, and you can camp inside the garage we rented at NHMS), and your lemons comp license.
So please let me know if you have any interest. Even if you aren’t sure about driving, but would like to come and hang out, great, let me know that too.
The way we have had new people express interest over the last 3 seasons, is to fill out a quick "survey" we came up with for the Wartburg season. Simply go to the link, fill it out, and we will get back to you. The survey has questions about how often you can help build, don't worry about that as much for this race, as the cars are fine and don't need much prep this time.

Please send me an email once you fill it out, just to make sure we get it...new website and all, not sure if it works....
If you have questions or don't feel like doing that, just email me: chris@threepedalmafia.com.
