Hey guys,
Our at least 8 years old Hotpoint washing machine does totally work anymore. My wife said that the clothes come out really wet like they weren't spun at all. I thought right away that it was the belt, so I pulled it out this morning, and had a look at the underside of the unit. The belt is still intact. I watched it go through a cycle, and the agitator moves, so I think the motor works that would spin the drum. Any reason why the motor would spin, and the belt is there, but the drum doesn't spin? Is there a transmission of sorts that could be bad? It sounds like the motor is spinning, but the drum doesn't? The agitator does move back and forth when it seems it should be on the spin cycle, maybe to help the spins cycle out. I am not sure.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Chris
Could be transmission or could be something simple, like the lid switch. If the lid is open, mine won't spin. Check the lid switch.
Just re-read your post. You say it agitates when it's supposed to be spinning? Sounds like a timer issue.
The lid switch is fine. I checked it.

We had a similar problem when the water discharge pump failed leaving too much water in the drum to spin effectively.

You can google the model number for some info on common problems.
Mine did it a couple months ago, I thought it was the transmission but when I googled the model number there seems to be a common problem with the computer freaking out and causing it not to spin.
The fix is unplugging it while it is running, waiting a minute then plugging it back in while immediately opening and closing the lid 6 times. Sounds strange but it has worked fine ever since.
Drain is plugged, BTDT with various washers.
Clutch would be my guess. The clutch on ours puked. It would wash fine, but not spin fast enough to get the water out of the cloths. It would pump down fine, but the drum would only spin about 1/4 speed.
I replaced the clutch and it works fine now.
Oh, if you need parts, go to these guys.

They ROCK for appliance parts.
I just replace the heat element in the dryer. Prices were good, they had the part in stock and next day shipping was under $30.
I went to a local place that sells refurbished appliances, and upgraded to a HE high capacity washer. Should have done it years ago, love it. Quit worrying about why your old one isn't working, and go big!

Not plugged. It drains down fine.

I've had good luck with them also.
Take the cat out of it, the fur probably clogged something.
Lol, no pets here in rotirville.
