My daughter's assignment was to make a water conservation poster. I'm quite proud of the outcome.

she is absolutely right. Running water, or at least clean water, was one of the turning points in human cultural development.

I went to Peru almost 20 years ago, and one of the things that stuck with me was the city of Ollantaytambo. Close to 600 years ago, the Incas redirected part of a river flow down through the center of the streets of town, so everyone had easy access to fresh water. They made the streets so they had a small channel in them that the water would flow through. It's not a torrent of water, but it's enough that you can fill pots and wash things off. It struck me then how amazing it was to set that up and for the inhabitants to have maintained it for 600 years and it really drove home how important water was.

Your daughter's right - water changes everything!

Also, that was where I learned that a cute herd of guinea pigs in someone's house are not pets. They're food.

The summer 2019 issue of the World Vision "magazine" is all about water. Every day, nearly 1,000 children under 5 die from problems associated with contaminated water and poor sanitation. They currently reach one new person every 10 seconds with clean water.

You have a very intelligent and caring daughter. Tell her we all said "Great job!" Catchy slogan too. Why can't the adult leaders of the world figure things like this out?

Thanks all. It's a good week for both kids. Her older brother is finishing 9th grade at the big high school.

Yesterday he got his invite to the award ceremony for GPA of 3.9 or higher, and an acceptance letter for dual enrollment at college. Engineering Academy, two math classes, honors biology.

Not bad for a kid on the spectrum, that spent all 3 years of middle school at a private school for autistic kids.

He's 15, daughter's 11. At dinner the other night, they were discussing different languages for writing computer code.

He's not ready to drive yet, but it's getting real close to time for him to learn the ways of the clutch.

They're doing well, but if my kids can't drive a manual transmission I will consider myself a failure as a parent.
