Our current house has some standing water in the crawl space and some mold/mildew. Freakout/nuke from orbit or no big deal? Totally willing to pay the experts for this because A: crawl spaces suck and 2: I want it done right. Am I looking at a few hundred or a few thousand?
First need to figure out the source. Misdirected downspouting would be in the $100 or less range. High water table gets into the $1000+ range.
Get it dried out or it will cause buckling in your flooring. Especially if you have hardwood floors. It will also cause mildew, wood rot, and other gross things to grow.
If it's running under, find out where a stop it. If it's just massive humidity, a dehumidifier will help a lot.
Does not seem to be leaking in except maybe through all of the vents. No leaky pipes and all gutters/downspouts are properly routed (and 2 are connected to underground pipes). Looks like just typical muggy NW weather coupled with an overdue for replacement vapor barrier. Get it cleaned and new barrier and???
Floors are pergo laminate stuff, no buckling or structural issues. We are smack-dab in the wettest part of the year.
having grown up on a barrier island.. our crawlspaces were -always- flooded with water
Lived in a rented crawlspace house once where someone had sealed up and insulated all the crawlspace vents. We had one unoccupied room where we stored clothes and things.
I had to toss a mildewed sport coat that my my Mom had gotten me and I'm now remembering what happened to some nice shoes that I couldn't remember tossing. My Florsheim Imperial v-cleat LWBs I got from the thrift and a great pair of loafers.
That was almost 20 years ago and time she do fly. Oh, well, I'm mostly a sneakers and shorts guy these days anyway.
Contractors here, not a big deal. Phew! Not even the most expensive thing we have to fix.
