Weird Jerking in My Audi A3 at Low Speeds

Hey everyone,

I’ve been noticing an issue with my 2018 Audi A3 lately. When I’m driving at low speeds, especially in stop-and-go traffic, the car feels jerky, almost like the transmission is struggling to shift smoothly. It’s most noticeable when I’m creeping forward or slowing down.

Has anyone else experienced this with their A3 or other Audi models? Is it something common with the DSG transmission, or should I be worried about a bigger issue? I’ve read that a transmission software update or servicing might help, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with this before.

BUT, not what you were asking.....

I know nothing of Audi's, but in general car terms: Why are you thinking transmission? Which I would normally not associate with jerkiness, other than actual shifting.  Jerkiness, in old school cars, is normally more associated with something like a bad cylinder (e,g. misfire) or bad carb sync (clearly not your issue).

I just had a similar issue in my 64 Corvair, and it was a carb linkage adjustment issue.  That was much more noticeable under acceleration though.

...OK, one more... and I want to avoid jerking in that car.  It's a convertible, everyone can see!...

Is the DSG a dual-clutch transmission? I'm not super familiar with VW parlance. But I know that when the Ford Focuses (Focii?) with the DCT were getting ready to have a transmission die, they would have a really bad chugging sensation at low speeds

I know I hated the DCT in my 135i around town........outside of town in Sport mode it was glorious. 

I had it reprogrammed 3 times in 18 months of ownership.

yeah, the Audis all share a DSG/DCT with VW, and my wife's Alltrack has the same issue.  She overcomes it by using the throttle as a binary switch.

I have two Audi Allroads (a 2017 and a 2018) that use the 7 speed dual clutch transmichigan - I've read that the issue is in the transfer case and that changing the oil in it - twice - will clear it up. The first change is to clean it out and only run in the car for 100 miles or so, then drained and replaced with the final fill.

Note this is only the transfer case, not the whole gearbox.....and I'll bet it's some kind of expensive German car only oil.

I have to admit I have not been under my car to see how it's built yet, but I will in the coming days as my car (the 2017) is due for an oil change. However, neither of my cars seem to have the issue....
