Welding cart question

Most of the bolt together ones I've seen seem to have the upper shelf where the welder would go at an angle. Any reason for it to be at an angle?

I'm kinda tired of mine being on the floor with the tank wedged between it and the wall. Thinking about finding some scrap steel and welding something up. Wondered what the angled shelf was for and should I plan for one.

The angled shelf makes it a little easier to see the face of the machine without stooping.

Makes it a little bit easier to see the controls when you're standing or sitting on a high stool. At least that's my theory! Here's my cart (with a slight incline):

OK. That makes sense!! Glad I asked. Mikeatrpi, that's what I'm thinking in my head to build except I have some bigger industrial casters I can use.

I found that the Harbor Freight cart was a great price and everything I needed.

That said, building your own is a great little welding project for practice.

I didn't have much scrap, hf cart was cheaper than I could build it for. Been using for about five years. The hf casters suck. I should have some decent ones laying around now

I was given a free legal size 2 drawer filing cabinet. What else was I going to do with it?

I agree with this statement. The H-F item is nice for the price.

I have enough unfinished projects. I dang sure don't need another one!

Best of both worlds: Bolt together the HF unit, then hit the joints with the MIG.

I had planned to build my own, but I bought the Harbor Freight one and I'm actually pretty happy with it.
