Yep I was planning a trip to Portland this weekend visit my dad and some of my friends, gas is cheap weather has been nice so hey good time to go right? Nope, weather forecast for this weekend calls for a blizzard and temps down into the single digits.
I swung by my local Schwabs to pick up a set of chains for the truck and a couple of sand bags, there was not parking spot one and people were parked on the street. Once I finally got a spot and got in the guys were running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I am still debating on making the trip, however I just got notified that they maybe closing the roads down tomorrow to keep people from getting caught in the blizzard. Fun stuff.
So has winter hit for everyone else?
It hit for these guys...

And yeah, it's been winter here in MI for a little while. It happens every year, so I can't act surprised about it.
Yeah the winter has been holding off here for some reason this year. I normally have a good amount of snow on the ground by now out here. So far its been flat out cold but no snow, now we will have snow and be even colder.

Gee, mid 70's, clear snd sunny. Last week it was winter, high 40's. Could actually see my breath when I walked the dog at 7:30AM.
I was supposed to drive south of Boston to pick up a Metro, the Berkshire Mountains between here and there don't look friendy. Maybe next week.
Right now the trees are covered with ice, it's cold enough to freeze and then it just rains; ergo, everything that rain touches is covered in 3/8" of ice. I have power, but three counties around me don't. The weight of the ice pulls power lines down to the ground.
Maybe it's time to rethink how bad Florida hurricanes really are.

For all you Portlanders, Schwabs is gonna rape you on chains. Got mine at Baxters for half the price of Schwabs

I lived through 30 Michigan winters before packing up and heading west. I do not miss it. However, It gave me a lifetime's worth of stories to tell when I hear native Californians complaining about the cold or the rain.
The smart ass me misses being able to point out that anyone can walk on water (when the ice is thick enough) and that Hell (a town in MI) freezes over every year and have people get the joke easily.
Yeah, I was going to say, I think I found chains cheaper at Freddy's than at Schwab's. Plus a couple of bags of sand, dirt, etc from the local garden shop/Lowes/Home Depot is liable to be cheaper than Schwab's, plus you won't have to deal with all the idiots putting their studs on and ruining the roads.
Yeah out here Schwabs is about your only option but they are at least cheaper and more competent then the ones down in Portland I've dealt with. Thats the fun of living in the sticks out in eastern Oregon.
About an hour ago the wind started kicking up and almost tore the screen door off the front of the house.

I'm not complaining. Heck, we need more rain.
I grew in Maryland and then Illinois. I do not miss Illinois winters.
It's damn cold, and been that way for a while. It has snowed here, but not considerably. I'm waiting for that...because then it's time for donuts in a parking lot!
New England got hit hard by an ice storm last night. 1 million people are without power:
Boston.com: Nearly 1 million people remain without power
My town was lucky. We only lost power for a few hours early this morning. The area where I work has downed limbs and power lines everywhere. My company is running on our backup generators right now.
It's 25 here right now, but it's supposed to be 59 Sunday.
The only thing more annoying than constant extreme temperatures is weather with bipolar mania.
Well its morning, there is several inches of snow and tons more coming down.
i love snow! but i hate salt, michigan sucks and they don't know how to salt, drove home, couldn't see a thing, covered in salty dust.

Winter with the motorcycle has me again contemplating about moving somewhere more south and west.
Snow is fun to drive in, Ice is not.
yeah our snow on the roads was quickly turned into ice...not fun. Hit 7 inches yesterday, havn't been out yet today.
Edmonton is a nice -31C (-22F) this morning. HOWEVER, it "feels like" with the windchill -41C (-41.8F). I was gonna go do the winter rally-x today, but I have to study :(
