I head back to school the 24th so i guess my summer is officially over. This summer has kind of been lame, i feel like there is a total lack of events in the Cincinnati area. Either that or i just simply dont know where to look. A ton of the cinci region scca events all took place quite a distance south in kentucky. lame.
Another small sanctioning body in the area only had 2 events for berkelys sake. I ran 2 small "time attacks" that coincide with a local drift event organizer and those were a lot of fun despite the lack of classes dividing cars (does my civic really stand a chance against a z06, an s2k, a turbo sentra SE-R, a 350z, a cammed LS1 RX7 on hoosiers, an e30 m3, an e46 m3? come oooooooon).
All is not lost i suppose. There is one more of the "time attacks" coming up on september 6th which i will probably attend. Even though im pretty much outgunned and outdriven, i still think its a lot of fun. I just hope to god there are more events next summer because this summer has left me with serious driving withdrawals ie: hand twitches, right and left foot twitches, sometimes i wake up with my helmet on!
Oh and something else that might make you laugh; you know your a civic driver when your girlfriend looks you in the eyes and says "Im not trying to be mean, but riding with you is kind of boring after riding with all these other cars. your car is slow." and your only response is... "I know."
How has everyone elses summer been? Anyone else in the Cincinnati area know of more events/happenings?
I realized that if I'd attended more events (autox) in Atlanta, I'd probably have gotten into the top 10 in points.
I'm chasing prepped Civics in ST with a VR6 Corrado on street tires, and it's my first year autocrossing (I'm an ex-circuit racer).

NICE. im in SM so i always just tell myself im screwed no matter what unless i own an evo on slicks. I made the classic "i got into cars before i got into driving mistake" and ive had the car ever since. And being the broke college student I am i cant justify trying to buy/build another car so im just kind of stuck where i am.
here in WNC we have lost all our venues except one.... we run a nite series there, 7 a-x .... but I've managed 18 so far this yr by driving anywhere from 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 hr . plus I've done 3 track days at 3 1/2 to 4 hr away...
my point : if you want to race and there's nothing in your back yard you start traveling...

Transfer to UF, FSU, even USF. All kinds of action all year, plus you will be a lot closer to the Challenge. The girls are MUCH cuter as well. Trust me, I went to OSU. Doesn't make any difference what your style of racing is either. It's all here, all the time. Chamber of Commerce signing off now.

You just have to enjoy it for what it is sometime..there's no way I'm going to catch the top five (one of them's the ST nat'l champ-and another's his wife..) in what I've got. IIRC I'm about 6-10 full seconds slower than them on a 60sec course. But the car is a ton of fun, and lots of people come up to talk about it because no one sees many of them anymore. I had a guy last year tell me it was the coolest car there-while it was gridded next to a new BMW M3!!
Besides, would you rather be racing, or at home wishing you were racing? Eventually, you'll finish school, pick yourself a class & car and take off after them. Keep running in what you've got, and think about how much seat time you'll have by then!
Summer is over for me too. I start back in school on Monday as well after 13 years off. Once a year there is an auto-x in town. Today was the day for this year's SIA Subaru Challenge. I had to work in the morning, and couldn't really afford to go anyway. I did drop in to spectate for a bit after I got off though. I did see a really nice red VR6 Corrado in the parking lot today. I was also a bit disappointing over 100 Subies competing and the only GRM sticker I saw was on my car.
I will let you know how my summer was in about another month, my classes don't start until the end of Sept.
One more week to go and I am back for my final year of school (out of only two years). I'm pretty pumped, as rallying really starts to pick up in Canada during the school year (pretty lax during the summer time) so at least once a month I'll be on stage, and then there is the winter rally-x plus ice-races that are right close to Edmonton.
Why do I get to do MORE during school when I'm supposed to be broke and "working hard"? ;)

Yeah I think I'm definitely going to have to drive farther next summer if its anything like this last summer. It just hasn't been like that around here before. And I'm not giving up lol I didn't mean for it to sound like that... Of course I wish I had a faster car, but really, I just need to be a faster driver, there's no doubt about that... A track day WAS in the works too but that fell through too due to money. Oh well, I guess I just need to enjoy when I do drive, whether it be on a deserted road, or a parking lot with a bunch of cones.

My first august without classes starting since '03. I dont know what to do with myself. Aside from replace my battery tray and pick up a helmet to catch an autoX on the 13th.
Mine's been OK, I was just hoping my project build wasn't going to take so long.
I haven't gottent to drive my E30 since February.
I did my first PDX (HPDE) while school was still in spring semester. The summer was spent with friends, on a corner, and as a lowly spectator at the ALMS race at mid-ohio.
Old and busted:
New hotness:
Everyone needs a helper:
Works out to 51,000lbs of measurable material. My wee chicken arms ain't so wee anymore. Every joint in my body aches and I can't sleep at night despite Ibuprofen or Tylenol. But it really looks good.
Looking forward to getting back to work and starting in on the Fiendish Firefly project (tee hee).
That retaining wall/sidewalk is pure hotness. I know I am getting old, but you should see the crappy rotting railroad ties I am dealing with.
Anyway, my daughter starts school Monday as well. If not, I would have no idea summer was over.
Here is more choices for SCCA events in the Cinci area
http://www.cincyscca.com/search.php
Louisville, Lexington and Dayton all have SCCA regions

Yeah the retaining wall looks really good, I bet you got a heck of a work out lol.
I'm thinking that next summer ill have to do events at kilkare, it shouldn't be too far away, and events there would probably be a lot of fun.

to much rain in nh area..not enough camping...but there is still hope.
i think.
SkinnyG, the place looks great!
Update on the racing stuff: only 5 cars showed up for ST at Atl Region Pts. 9 yesterday. Four Civics, an Accord, and me. Finished 4th. But I scored 82pts, and now sit 9th in the YTD standings. One event left-in October. I love the South..
Summer was enjoyable because I got my 68' Fairlane to the point where I could run and drive it. A year later than I had told everyone it would be done, but boy does a V8 with just headers sound sweet to my ears.
Now I am sitting in a library at college, my first day back at it in two years. Classes are done for today but I think there is some re-arranging I need to do to my schedule. Trying to keep a positive attitude going because I don't really know anyone yet, the few people I did know have graduated from this place already. Any one else here at PSU?
sigh...the 2nd summer of no racing for me due to lack of cash to run much less the car not being finsished...sigh....
but i have attanded a bunch of car shows this year and sevral cruise nights more then i have in the past few years at least.....
sigh......
