I know this has been posted multiple times … but the search is co-operating with me
sent my phone through the wash/rinse cycle (and it really wasn't all that dirty
)… took the battery out, stuffed the phone in a bag of rice … been 2 days now …
how long should it stay there before I try to use it ?

If it isn't okay now, it probably won't ever be.
Son's phone did not respond to the rice. Even waited ~two weeks, nada. Buy a new phone.
Forget to throw away container of rice and phone. Happen to find it several months later. We were curious, so we charged it. It turns on and works.

thanks guys … I'll dig it out of the rice later this morning, and give it a try … no hard copy of all the contacts
Were your contacts linked your google or apple account (you don't say what type of phone)? If so, you've still got them.

no .. it's a Net 10 phone … good and bad
good is it's $100 every 6mo
bad is it's not linked to anything
Just announce to one person that you hit the lottery for $50 million. They will all contact you.
If it doesn't work and you really need the info, you could try rinsing it out with distilled water and returning to step 1. It might help but chances are slim.
Leave it in the sun in the rice bag.
Wash and rinse? Like in a clothes washing machine? Might take longer than two days. A lot longer!

tried it this evening … the keyboard lights up … so far nothing else
… plugged it into the charger, I'll check it in a couple of hrs
Distilled water followed by denatured alcohol but the damage is probably done. good luck.
it's gotta be good rice. minute rice doesn't cut it.

FWIW .. the phone "lives" … the " " are because after 24hr of charging it still says "low battery" … if all I have to do is replace the battery …..
Inexpensive replacement batteries can often be sourced on Amazon.
Since this is a NEt10 phone, you can source a complete, new, replacement handset for $20 to $99 depending on desired features.

the only problem there is the lose of all the contacts …
John, if I get the same phone would the SIMS card just transfer (assuming it's ok) ?
Yes, the SIM card will transfer. It is most likely that all the contacts are stored on the SIM, not the handset itself.
