I want one!
Too bad you'd have your kids taken away if you gave them one nowadays.
Bikes were safer back then, you didn't need a helmet.
Here I was thinking that looping the bike was half the fun of learning to keep the front end up.
My bad.
I lived through this era - I want to go back!
I like the kid riding the wheelie in his bare feet. LOL
i had a Green Machine... it got broke when my dad took it down the hill that my mom had just yelled at me for taking it down.. he spun it into the curb and broke it in half- there may have been alcohol involved... it was replaced with a wicked red one that had rear wheels that swiveled...
In reply to Woody:
Pete over at Hyper-Performance is making reproductions of the wheelie bars.
He makes some other cool vintage Schwinn repro parts too.

Not everything about the '70's sucked.
OK, the wheelie bar was from the '60's, but I wasn't.

Still have a set
(though I was born in the mid 80's)
I was about 8 years old when that commercial came out. My friends and I thought they were dumb - like training wheels for the wheelie impaired.
Little Red Wagon FTW, however!
Wham-O is still going strong Website
Out of all the things listed, only the Green Machine still exists in relatively unmolested form, and the 20" wheel one will handle a full sized adult!
I pulled a wheelie on a rented beach cruiser at the beach this summer. It went a little too high, so I had to step off the back. No big deal right? Except I also rented one of these!
Ooops!

$10 says that kid had a broken tailbone...

Nah, it's not as bad as it looks. The butt side of those things is hollow/blow molded- collapses under pressure sorta like a thick milk jug. Actually works really well as a cushion, though it might only do it once.

nah... kids were built tougher back then...
LOL I did that and more on my big wheel. Hell we learned the physics of sliding sideways with ours as kids. Didn't realize it was physics but hey, we learned it!
Thanks for the Ad woody, that was great!
