Greta Van Fleet at Amalie Arena this year. March, maybe?
Buddy is a partner at a local law firm that has a suite. He snags tickets periodically and invited me.

Went to see Erykah Badu and Yasiin Bey at the United Center in Chicago at the beginning of this month. Pretty dang good show.

I always imagined Cake to be one guy with a trumpet. It would be almost disappointing to see a band onstage.
Not at all disappointing. They always put on a fun show. Last night was "An Evening with CAKE" so there was no opener, just 2 sets of them with a 10-15 minute break.
They closed the show with War Pigs, which was awesome of course. They didn't allow recording or still pics, but I snuck one anyway:
[edit] The crowd was OK. Reserved seats are a must for any popular band, and fortunately everyone pretty much sat down in them throughout the show.
There was one obnoxious loudmouth woman directly behind us, but either she got the hint and left or her friend dragged her out of the place after about 5 songs. Quality of life went up radically after that.
The woman next to me was polite but her friend 2 seats over yakked incessantly through most of the show, which of course was pointed right at my ear. Why pay that much money to see a band you profess to love, and then pay no attention to their show?! Eventually I couldn't take it and shushed her; she apologized and did actually tone it down a bit.
Other than that the crowd weren't bad, but of course, we weren't jammed and jostled in the middle of a GA floor.
Also, a lot of people were still coming in during their first set, and John McCrea made fun of them for trying to skip the opening act.
In March we went to see James McMurtry at Levon Helm Studio in Woodstock. It was just him and a guitar. He puts on a very good show, lots of backstories to go with the music. It was my first time seeing him and going there. It holds a couple hundred people right in front of the stage and in a loft above, it's probably the smallest venue I've been to, a really good place to see someone like that.
Oh man it has been too long. I was twice a week in a small club pre covid. Last year I managed several shows a month. This year, maybe 4 times. Last was May 15 at Ironbound farms, an outdoor venue, for Ruby West, a young 4 piece band with an incredible vocalist and song writer named Brittany Ramaglia.
I was supposed to see Dinosaur Jr. and Clutch last night, but ended up giving my ticket away as I had to drive back to NH last night. I had a delusion I would drive up after the show, but considering I got into my hotel room at 11:30 PM and I'm really dragging today, it looks like I made the right call. Still bummed, tho... I really wanted to see Clutch. This is the second concert I've missed do to this work assignment. I missed Eric Johnson last year.

I learned about Todd Snider during the pandemic - would love to see him. Hilarious, wonderful performer, at least on the live records I've heard.
I saw Steve Earle last week. His opener, Channing Wilson, was really good, too - awesome voice.
Also saw Nickel Creek a couple weeks ago. As an on-again-off-again mandolin player, I was of course predictably stunned by Chris Thile's sheer genius, but they all played the E36 M3 out of their instruments - great show.
On the folk end of the spectrum, I saw The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, a trio of fiddlers from Scandinavia who are just fantastic.
You gotta go out and see shows before the next pandemic hits ;-)
PS I find that earplugs help me tolerate the crowds more as I get older, not to mention, you know, protect your hearing.

Last time I saw Cake, the lead singer basically chastised everyone recording the show. Not because they were gonna put it on YT or something, but because they were missing out. He basically said, put your berkeleying phones away so you can be here, now, and enjoy the show. Just...listen and experience this. It was great, I have to say.

Clutch is so good live.
I haven’t seen Dinosaur Jr. since college, but I think it was the loudest show I have ever seen. Wall of sound.
I think it was Jimmy Eats World and Dashboard Confessional last year? That was for the fiance since I drag her to all kinds of metal shows.
We do have tickets for Queens of the Stone Age in September.

They are coming to the same place we just saw CAKE. I kind of want to go, but kind of also don't.
We're going to see Beck and Phoenix at the same venue in early September.

I saw them back in 2014 for the ...Like Clockwork tour, one of the best shows I've been to.

Yeah, I saw them open for... maybe NIN? It was around the time of Songs For The Deaf. They have a ton of great music in their catalog, but some of it is not very entertaining, too.
I saw Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark at Jannus Live in downtown St Pete back in April. They put on a great show after 40 years in the biz. I expected a guy pushing a button on a drum machine for each song but they have an actual human drummer! The singer sounded as good as he ever did too.
Skinny Puppy at Jannus Live in St. Pete back in April. First place I ever saw them back in 1989, so it seemed a fitting spot to take in the final tour. GRM superfan and guitar player Matthew Setzer snuck my best friend and I—two guys who had grown up in St. Pete together listening to their music in the '80s— in early for a stage tour and to listen to the soundcheck. Pretty special way to celebrate the end of their era (even if I got covid a week later).
Oh and I now have a C5 Z06 valve cover signed by John Heinicy and all the touring members of Skinny Puppy and Ohgr. Just gonna go ahead and say that's a one-of-one collectible.
Saturday, we had Dashboard Confessional paired with Counting Crows at our venue. Not sure of that really counts, I get paid to be there.
We have a "tribute band" that tours several times a year made up of prominent figures from the local music industry and a few fill in session musicians. The format of their shows is to pick a well known album, perform it in its entirety and after intermission power through a further selection of the artists work. This years tours were Neil Young / Harvest, Dire Straits / Making Movies and Fleetwood Mac / Rumours. They try pretty hard to recreate the original and generally succeed - they used two singers and two guitarists to fill in for Mark Knopfler.
We went to the first two and had a pretty good time although I was a bit disappointed by the sound balance at times.
Grand Ole Opry week before last. I can take or leave a lot of C&W music, but it's still a hell of a show.

I love the Mad Caddies.
You know, I went in not knowing any of their songs. A friend invited me. I guess her partner didn’t want to go, and my friend didn’t want to go alone. We had a terrific evening.
I saw a local jam band over the weekend called "Dead Man's Dog," it's not my style of music, really, but I didn't hate it. Prior to that, the last live music I saw was My Chemical Romance (and Descendents, Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday and Sparta) in September 2022.

I am a fan of Steve Earle and have seen him several times in the Portsmouth NH area.
The last show I've seen was several months ago, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Saw him for the first time about 40 years ago.....
I saw The Brothers Comatose at the Trout Lake Hall in WA a couple weeks ago. That was a really fun show. Trout Lake has a population of like 770 people and the Hall has been there since 1904.
Lovely wife and I went to Post Malone at Alpine Valley 2 weeks ago. (nearly) front row reserved behind the pit, dead center. It was awesome. Posty puts on one heck of a show.
This weekend we are headed to the Moondance Festival for my friend's wedding. Not my style of music necessarily but I will go check it out.
3 weeks from now we are going to see Jelly Roll/Yelawolf/Struggle Jennings. I am super excited for that one, been a big Yela fan for a long time and Jelly Roll is pretty good too.
You'll need to log in to post.
