Since the hive knows everything-
Im by Burlington Vermont at one of those outdoor shopping mall places (The kinda place with a name like "The Shoppes at Towne Centre") and I noticed all the stone curbs around the trees have these aluminum brackets around them.
What the heck are they for? Are they hitching posts for really small horses? Blocks to keep me from roller blading on the curb? Some sort of anti-hippie device?
Ideas?

Skate stoppers.
To prevent Julien Stranger from throwing a back lipslide down your neighborhood hubba.
Are you catching my hip 90's lingo?

They are to keep the skateboarders from grinding on the edges.
I used to skate, but never felt the urge to destroy things by grinding, especially not my board. At the college I went to (now a university) one of the handrails that went down to the theatre was such a good place to grind, they wore through the metal tube that was the railing.
Skating isn't a crime, but vandalism is, and grinding is vandalism. It's too bad they need those ugly brackets to keep people from being shiny happy people.
You're at Maple Tree Place in Williston. And yes, those are for the anti-skater crowd. Hopefully you get over to Superb Cupcakes at Taft Corners next to the 99 restaurant. Tell them George sent you. Seriously.
Any BMX video from the early 00’s will have a section with riders figuring out tricks that negate those things, as above though it’s pretty crappy to street ride and destroy someone’s property.

That sounds right. A colleague sent me to Grazers for poutine and bacon maple jalapeno appetizer things. I followed the GPS. Unfortunately I made it back to the hotel before seeing the cupcake recommendation.
So either these things are common and Ive never noticed, or I tend to hang out where skaters do not.
They do that and screws at intervals in benches up here to stop bikes and skateboards. I still goof off on bmx bikes but the ledges we ride are with permission.
