I need another car my 91 lifted cherokee aint cutting it anymore...i have to drive 20mins through the country to get to my job...in 1 week thats almost a full tank of gas....i have a 4.5" lift with 31's

so need to buy another car.

I have owned a few neons which i loved, they are so cheap and easy to work on...so many performance parts available for it. I also had a 89 mercedes 190e 16v that was an awsome car too but was automatic.

My next car has to have aftermarket support and be a manual transmission., and be under 5k. Something i can build up

a few cars i found were... 04 sentra spec v 113k 89 golf gti with 2.0 16v swap (dunno the milage on this thing) 98 beetle 80k 00 golf vr6 maybe a 240sx?

what are your opinions guys?

Let me be the first to say, Miata!

It sounds like you definitely want something with sporting potential. Any of those cars you listed would work. If it were me, I'd steer away from the later VW's. I'm turned off by their dependability and electrical issues. The Sentra would be my pick from that list.

Can't overlook the Civic and E30, too. You might also look into a Ford Focus. It won't be quite as tossable as some of the others, but you can get one in nice shape with reasonably low miles for $5k.

But Miata would still be my first answer.

I would stay away from the beetle. It was more of a styling exersice than anything else. the sentra sounds the best to me

How about a Zx2? Mostly Mazda underneath and pretty affordable and can be made to handle..

I drive a ZX2. They can be found cheap, and are decently reliable, but I think for the money that I spent on mine I would've waited around for a bargain 240SX,E30 or CRX.

The ZX2 get between 27 (really hard driving) and 35mpg.

Taking on another expense (second car) can be a difficult way to save money. Will you be keeping the Jeep anyway?
Do you plan to sell the Jeep?
Will there be any real buyer who will actually pay enough for it?

Where I am going here is, would it be money better spent to put highway rubber on the Jeep and take off the swampers in order to just get better mpg in the Jeep? I would think that you could have plain rims, with street tires for $500.

If you spend $5k on a new car and take a $1k lose on the Jeep, you could have $6k into this purchase. For that $6k of spending, I bet you will only see a $1k savings per year in reduced fuel.

Two cars it is. I understand that myself. I would say if your looking for mpg, look past a VR6. The mpg they get is poor and they call for premium as well.

Check out www.fueleconomy.gov It will give you and compare mpg on all cars sold in the US since 1985

miata (go drive one, don't shrug it off as too small, I'm 6'2'' and it's a tight fit, but I absolutely love daily driving it), E30, or EF Civic Si. In that order.
