+1000!! I love automatic payments, and have used them extensively since the late 90's. There's nothing quite like having all your bills paid on time without actually lifting a finger.
It always amazes me when I have to send a check to a big business. I feel like I'm firing up the teletype or something.
I HATE automatic payment. I want to look over what they're charging me for, every item, every month. I've prevented all kinds of bullE36 M3 that way.
You can still look it over, you just don't have to take action to make the payment. You always should look it over.
Amex Blue Cash is the one that we use:
http://www.credit-cards-resource.com/american-express/blue-cash-everyday/?path=ccn-aech-gls-100c1a
3% cash back at supermarkets, 2% cash back at gas stations and department stores, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. We signed up a few years back, so we get 5% at gas stations, drugstore, and grocery stores, and 1% everywhere else. Given that we have 3 kids, we spend a good chunk of money at places where we get 5% back, so it works out well for us. Our balance is paid in full every month, so the high APR isn't a concern.
