Yep, it's pretty rare the multicolor is helpful for productive things (although nice for making gifts without having to change spools). I like the AMS system with Bambu to keep multiple filament types ready. I even printed the same item by object this morning in 2 different filaments, both black, to decide which I would prefer before making the batch.
I will say, for GRM I far prefer Prusa or homebrew. Bambu is great for off the shelf just working but I have major issues with the software and connectivity needs.

Doesn't a multi-color head also allow you to use a soluble support filament?
I've tried solubles. They work so-so. The real deal is that some filaments won't bond together, like PETG and PLA. They simply won't stick to each other. So if you're printing PLA use PETG as the supports with a zero interface. Perfect surface finish, and the parts come right off.
With the Bambu, each switch from Filament 1->2 takes several minutes. If you have a part with an angled or curved surface you need to support it will drive a E36 M3load of filament changes and make the build take forever. (IDEX or similar designs eliminate this issue)
I really liked PLA w/ PETG support at first, but quickly decided that A) if the supported area is flat, you can tune PLA->PLA supports really damn well. B) if its angled or curved its too time consuming to be worth it, so I just use PLA->PLA most of the time anyway.
The true commercial grade solubles aren't bad, but I haven't messed with consumer grade stuff. The solubles interest me because they enable hollow parts.
I'm running a P1S right now and quite like it; I like being able to print with a minimal amount of fiddling, though I recently installed hardened feed gears and a hardened nozzle for CF printing. I've been debating the AMS not because I'm doing multi-color prints but because it would be nice to test a couple iterations of materials/colors without unloading/reloading each.

I just sold my AnkerMake M5 and set up a Bambulab A1. Good lord is the Bambulab quiet.
i have to print a few more thinhs before I have a real impression.
As of today I wont be purchasing anything Bambu if I can avoid it. I'll repost this here. Basically they are starting to force the use of their software and pass through their servers even for those who want to operate in "LAN only mode"
Bambu Lab Firmware Update Forces Cloud Dependency & User Lock-In - AVOID THEIR 3D PRINTERS!
Garbage. I printed garbage last night.
I've made several tries at printing a fairly simple design this weekend, but started having adhesion issues. I worked on that through a couple of iterations, and finally had to go to the blue tape while I wait for a different print bed.
It was going well last night when I left it. Good adhesion, no stringing, pretty print. Sometime in the night the filament decided to bind up on the spool.

What in the hell? I've really enjoyed the P1S but this is not a great development. This chaps my hide. Does this break OrcaSlicer, then?
In reply to brandonsmash :
OrcaSlicer is still working on the X1C we have at work but I won't be updating the firmware on that machine anytime soon.

I've seen it confirmed (2nd hand info here... SpaceCadet to the courtesy phone please) that yes, it will break it.

Is it completely offline? The implication in that video is that it will force an upgrade if you are online. Unsure about LAN mode - but info regarding that is really gray.
I've read up on it and it looks like I'll need to find a way to force the machine to only communicate via LAN and not have any outside access. I'm super disinterested in their forced firmware bullE36 M3 that breaks my workflow and is all Invasion of the Privacy Snatchers.
I've been doing prototypes for my Locost.
Throttle cable fitting/assembly. Pretty happy with how it fits. The Birkin pedal cluster is kind of awkward to work around, but I think this'll hold fine when made from ASA/ABS. If it gets hot enough to melt, I'm probably in bad shape.
And tonight I'm printing a prototype throttle pedal and I see how the leverage ratio feels before I commit to making chips.
In related news, thoughts on the Anycubic S1 combo? I pre-ordered one but may cancel it. It looks like a good value, similar (knockoff?) to the P1S, but I'm cautious of them going a similar path to BL. I'd only ever connect it via LAN, for what it's worth. My Prusa has been great, but I'd like something faster, enclosed and just having a parallel printer to keep things moving along.

Lmk if you need Birkin measurements/detail photos/whatevs.

Wow that's a terrible decision on their part. I came this close >< to buying an x1 c a few weeks ago and I'm not sure if it'll stay the primary choice with that one not so minor change made.
In reply to Mike (Forum Supporter) :
Actually, do you have any close ups for how they deal off the pedal cluster and of the throttle cable fittings at the pedal?
Here's my thread if you don't mind dropping them in here, or PM/email. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, they were the weapon of choice a year or two ago. They aren't any more. They have driven all of the other players in the market to up their game and there are some amazing machines out there that I would choose over a Bambu even before this privacy bullE36 M3.

What do you see as the hot E36 M3 machines right now for home "just want it to work" users? Thanks!!

Also interested in this question. I would reccomend Bambu for it "just working" but as I noted I far prefer Prusa for DIY and lack of software lockdowns. I don't have experience with other "turnkey" solutions and would love to know hive thoughts. I don't have any plans to buy more printers soon (I have 3), but also want to give good info.

I bought an A1 combo a few weeks ago. I'd return it if I could.
I just set my P1S to LAN-only mode and spent too long in my router settings figuring out how to wall the printer off from WAN. I think it will work, but setting a parental rule and disallowing Internet access for "bedtime" from 10PM-10PM should work.
Travis, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm not on any social media (Reddit, Facebook, etc.) and would have allowed firmware to update, which would have completely broken my workflow as I use OrcaSlicer exclusively.
This will be my last Bambu device. This E36 M3 is NOT okay.

QIDI Plus4 3D Printer - 3D Printers Depot
This is the recommendation of a close coworker who is an expert on these things. Its "Every bit as good as the P1S and more". Also around the same price.
The only thing I am aware of that it doesn't do that an X1 would do is the auto tuning of extrusion volume. If you could survive and Ender, this thing will blow it away. Its also more capable than an X1 in many ways (heated chamber, nozzle, etc.)
I manage a prototyping shop at work with 5 X1s (among other printers) and these are definitely in the crosshairs as a replacement. I run a P1S at home (with AMS), but if I needed to buy a printer right now, the QIDI would be my choice.
If that wasn't an option, I'd look at the Creality K1 or K2. I'm not fully up to speed on the Creality options, but I think they have a comparable machine.
Both the Creality and the QIDI are much more open systems and dont do any of the bullE36 M3 Bambu is pulling this week.
If you can stomach some more fine tuning time yourself, we have one of these also Magneto X Magnetic FFF 3D Printer by Peopoly and its awesome, but it will take you a while to make it awesome.
In reply to TravisTheHuman :
I'll say I'm growing tired of fiddling with settings and maintenance on my modded Ender3s and I've been seriously looking at the Qidi Plus4 for a potential home printer. I was considering the Qidi X-Max3 until the Plus4 came out. The heated chamber, high temp hotend and build volume of the Qidi makes it look like a serious winner.
I still calibrate flow rate and pressure advance manually on new materials on the X1C I run in the office. I have not really been impressed with the outcome of the "automated" correction factors from the Bambu.

Made a little tool to install rotors with the apex seal springs already installed like Mazda has at the factory. Basically it's like a piston ring compressor.
Standard procedure is to install the springs behind the apex seals with the rotor in the housing, it can be fiddly with fingers greasy from assembly oil.
