So whoever wins today, you guys apparantly spent around 6 billion dollars to elect him. Or more than the GDP of at least 4 African countries.
As Joe Dirt would say, "DANG!"

I heard them saying some woman had spent $100M buying a senate nomination from Connecticutt... And lost.

I didn't believe you, so I checked. $8 billion on Halloween. Interesting.

That was Vince McMahon's wife... that $100M was spread across this senate race and another a few years back.
I am confused, the last I saw was about $1.8 Billion raised between the two campaigns,
are you talking about all the super PACS and special interest groups included?

Doubt she cares, pretty sure it's all Vinces money.
Seems to be a common number floating around, but this might be the source.

As a resident of Ohio, I am pleased that much of this money was funneled into our state.
I am also ooking forward to not being subjected to 15 minutes of political-advertisement derp every hour.

I love Halloween!
6 billion and having to go through all the ad's to keep everything pretty much exactly the way it has been

Wow. Well that puts things in perspective doesn't it.
I didn't spend anything on Halloween this year so don't blame me. I'm not part of the problem.

gotta think of the pundits... and the pollsters... and the political advisers...
their families gotta eat too, dammit..
i think that $6 billion number is the amount that was spent on every national level office this time around- so the president and every congresscritter and wanna-be congresscritter that was running for office..
i'm starting to think it would make good business sense to move to Ohio and build a hotel.. you could overcharge all the pollsters, pundits, advisers, and media people for 1 solid year out of every 4 and use that money to glide thru the other 3 years...

They all have busses...Im not sure where all this "Politician Money" was spent in Ohio...from what I could tell, they rode the bus in, spoke, rode the bus out. Maybe they bought some diesel or something, but I couldnt see much more coming to Ohio besides radio ads...

I was pretty much just appalled that it cost $100M to try for a lousy senate seat from a tiny little state like CT.

I know nothing about her or even what party she represents, but to me it says more about how bad of a person she is that $100,000,000 wasn't able to buy an election.

That probably includes candy but not alcoholic beverages.

About 20ish years ago Strom Thurmond raised (and I assumed spent) over $5 million for a senate race in which he was unopposed.
Ol' Strom was a perfect example of what's wrong with the government in this country. He was in office for a stupid long time, kept getting reelected over and over even though in his last 3 terms he was not even fully aware of where he was. His staff ran the show, he was merely a figurehead at that point.
Strom was good at funneling money back here. Did it do any good? That could be debated till the cows come home. The point is, the money was funneled not necessarily because it was needed but rather because he'd been there so long he knew where the bodies were buried. Time to put an end to all that and term limits would go a long way toward fixing it, since we as a people won't throw the bastards out after two terms.
