8-ish to 6-ish, M-F, don't go home if there's a shipment that will be missed if I do. That's only happened once in 3 years, but that night was 3AM.

Civilian job is either Wed-Sat or M-F. Wed-Sat is 11-9pm, 11-9, 1-9, and 6-6 on Sat. M-F is 1-9 and if a Saturday that week 6-6. Work schedule is flexible meaning I could work 12 hours one day and 4 the next if need be. Or work 12 each day until 80 and be done with my pay period. Overtime was just authorized.

On the other side it's typically 7-4, 6-3, or until work gets done or released by brass.

This week? Get on a plane Tuesday evening and go somewhere else where it's already morning. Get on another plane, land in a place where the exit ramps are telling you to fart all the time. Dinner features a pile of giant white asparagus that puts me in mind of the bag-o-dicks from the other thread.. Hope I can sleep tonight since I'm up early to drive all over the place and then on a race track.
Then I get on another plane, go home, put on the coffee, and desperately try to form some sort of cohesive re-telling of the experience, while simultaneously re-packing for the next one.

Monday through Thursday: 3:00pm - 11:30pm
Friday: officially the same, but in reality changes because we are the last shift and have to shut everything down. Usually 3pm - everything done.

About to change to:

Saturday through Monday: 6pm - 6am

We have to have 2 early shifts a week, 2 late and one mid. I like my mid on Mondays, so that returning from the track at 9pm on a Sunday means I have time to unwind, and sleep in Monday morning. Having alternate Thirs-Fri and Sat-Sun off means that I only need to book off 2 days for a 4 day weekend (many co-workers are there every weekend), and I have every other weekend with SWMBO, who will be working HyperFest with me this weekend. It pays the bills, and I have fun at work.

With this Sequestration nonsense I work 6:30 to 3:00, stay home every Friday without pay.

Thank you Mr. President who still rides around in a nice jet and doesn't take a pay cut.

Normally a week of 7a-3p then rotate to 3p-11p M-F, OT on weekends when scheduled. Currently working midnight 11p-7a to cover for the regular guy who went out on SL. 7p-7a Sunday night for plant start-up, cuts the weekend kinda short but my week is done Friday morning at 7a.

Once getting used to midnight I actually prefer it. Good, seasoned crew to work with. Driving home relaxed after my shift at 7 am while other drivers are white-knuckling it late for the rat race.

During the school year, when I have to take the kiddies in "on my way" (translation: "go the opposite direction from work"):

M-F from a little after 0815 until I've had enough (which is usually anywhere between 1630-1800)

When kiddies don't have to be dropped off, I aim to get to my office around 0730-0745 and I usually work until 1600-1800, depending.

I had a boss once who taught me that anyone still in the office past 1500 on a Friday is an idiot. So, sometimes, I'm an idiot, but I usually try to book out of the office early if I can. I also fully believe in the IQ test: Once your boss leaves for the day, you are dumber for every minute you remain in the office! This means that I am frequently pretty dumb, but if I'm booking out early I make sure to remind all the guys that report to me that "the IQ test starts now". Usually the only days that I'll apply this heavily are the days that the office empties out for everyone else to go to the ballgame or play golf or watch sportball programs on the tv or something.

My operating theory is that my company pays me to perform a certain job function which results in a high amount of return for them. When I have to bust ass to get something to a customer and wind up working through lunch or into the evening, I do it and don't whine about it. If I have (or can create) a lull in the action, I'll scoot out a little early and my boss doesn't whine about it. It's a two way street and in the end I make sure that my team meets or exceeds our revenue goals every quarter (among other contributions, of course), and at the same time neither my team nor I have to become indentured servants.

Alarm @ 4:30 AM... usually crawl out of bed by 5. Try to be on the road before 6. 1 hr+ drive gets me to work around 7. One hour lunch at noon-ish. Leave around 4.

That's what I try to do... sometimes I stay late or leave early. We're pretty flexible here.

before I retired it was 6:30am to 3:00pm ... but OT was expected ... so I usually got there ~ 5:15am and then would leave at normal time

the plant makes mostly parts for the Mil. and civ. aero-space industry ... so the sequestration has hit them pretty hard ... there is still tons of OT in the machine shop, but they laid off more than 20% of the office and assembler work force

as noted by people in here, your times will vary widely by the type of industry you work in. What do you hope to do?

Personally I'm in the financial world, so my life revolves in large part around the stock market, which is open 9:30am-4:00PM EST. Generally speaking I'm at the office by 8AM. I have ~hour commute, so I wake up @6AM, and leave by 7AM. At the end of the day after the market closes at 4PM... there's usually not a whole lot left to do, so I plan my day, organize, etc. and try to leave by 4:30, and get back home between 5:30-6:00.

In my former professional life I was in compliance mgmt in an auto supplier manufacturing environment. 1st shift in many plants starts by 6:30AM. If you're white collar or responsible for mgmt of shift going-ons, that means you're there before shift starts... typically by 6AM. Since I did training and had responsibilities on all shifts, to catch the tail end of 3rd shift I'd have to be there some days before 5AM. The upside, you can generally head home by 3:30ish after 2nd shift is rolling.

I enjoy my "banker's hours" now, but since I'm on more or less full comission, there's no "punching the clock" so if I don't do work, I don't get paid. There's a lot of "soft work" that's all part of the job... after hours client events, meetings, social things, etc.
