I've heard a lot of comments from FL residents stating that they don't like living there. I live in Pensacola and have been thinking of moving further south. What don't you like about FL?

I was born and raised in central Fl and my whole family still lives there. It's too humid, the cockroaches are gigantic and fly, the love bugs, it's flat, there's no good driving roads, it takes forever to get anywhere, toll roads, no tracks, rains every day at 4PM, the cops are really bad, high crime, and no jobs. Oh, and hurricanes (not too bad, we only evacuated once in 15 years).
I much prefer living in the Northwest! (Though I do like to visit Florida. Just not live there...)
I grew up in Port St. Lucie/Ft. Pierce. I hated it then. It's apparently 10X worse now. I can't speak for all of Florida, but:
HEAT. Summer is just freaking exhausting. If you work at a place where t-shirts and shorts aren't permitted, be prepared to be a sweaty mess for at least 1/4 of the year.
Crime. Again, not all of Florida, but South Florida fo' sho'. Particularly the gang-related variety.
Non-English speakers, and their accompanying flags, bumper stickers, E36 M3ty attitude, etc. Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and the rest of them are a stone's throw away. If you love it so much there, hop your happy ass back in the shoebox you floated over on.
Flooding/tropical storms/hurricanes.
Old people and the berkeleying traffic jams they cause - not just on the roads. You'd better be damned sure you don't try to get your grocery shopping done on bluehair discount day.
LIKES:
Fishing. Chicks in bikinis. School system was 10X better than GA, or at least it was 25 years ago.
I'm so berkeleying thankful to live in North Georgia. No crime, no traffic, cheap property, people are friendlier than most. Couple inches of snow here and there in the winter. Aside from the occasional heat-wave, summers are mild (at least compared to Florida.)
Farm livin' is the life for me.
What do I not like? Not much. I've lived in a lot of states, and I've moved back to here twice. Yes, it gets kind of hot in the summer.....that's just a chance to stay near the water and hike in the woods at the local state park. (I can drive all but three blocks of the distance from my house to a state park on two lane roads.) I'd dislike large city life, but this is nice.

How about tightening the geography...
What don't you like about Pensacola?
(I just made an offer on a house in PCola yesterday)
Yeah, I'll reiterate that my take is on South Florida; particularly the East Coast. I dig some of the more inland areas. High Springs, and all those little sleepy towns near Gainesville are awesome (for my taste.) But still, HOT, and no saltwater fishing :( Though it's a short ride to the coast.

Then why do they keep visiting? Funny, you don't see many people going up north and sending postcards back to FL!
After spending time in NJ/NY/IL for work, I am convinced once people realize how awful it is up here and how beautiful it is down there, there will be a mas exodus and property values are going to skyrocket in FL.

It's only hot if you stay inland and don't have a boat. Yes, the summers are a little warm but the other 3/4 of a year it's almost perfect and you get to laugh at all the northerners shoveling snow/stuck indoors.

I don't really dislike Pensacola but there's not enough of my kind of motorsports in the area. I did a search for kart tracks and middle/southern FL seems to have a lot of them. I also found out that the autoX venues in E TN and NW FL don't allow karts. I'd like to give F125 a go before I get to old to get off of one Got to hurry too because that might happen next month.
I'm also not satisfied with my house in Pensacola so I'm just exploring other possibilities.
I'd prefer to live in an area that isn't quite so prone to major damage from hurricanes. I think N central FL might fall into that category.
We've had Karts at the events for a while now. Last event we had one shifter kart and a couple non shifter karts.
I've only been there twice, both times to Miami. I don't like it, and I like every single state I've ever visited. It's flat, the vegetation seems prehistoric, and it just seems to have a sleazy vibe. Also, worst drivers ever.

Errrrm. Yeah. That's already happened. A couple times now. How'd that work out? FWIW, I like Tampa more than most parts of FL...though that's probably because my brother is there, which means fishing, whiskey, race cars & titty bars
If you'd just let me go all flamethrower GTA style on the berkeleying disgusting "orange vest" community. You know what I'm talkin about.
Gators. Snakes. Constant state of sunburn. Tourists, and tourists grand parents. Cocoon. Hurricanes. Lack of mountains. Poor beer selection. The skiing stinks unless a boat is involved. You never get to experience the joy of having the boogers in your nose freeze. At least you have grm's world headquarters as a saving grace.

Fine. I'm going to add alligators and snakes to my list of things I like. Keep your frozen boogers.
South Florida in general. It's a completely different world once you get south of about West Palm Beach. It's more like LA. It intimidates me a bit, and it's claustrophobic as hell.
Scumbags. The cheap cost of living attracts a transient element.
Special events. Being a tourist state, they're our lifeblood. But damn are they annoying if you live here. Bike Week, spring break, Race weeks, etc. Not as bad in other parts of the state, but every town seems to have their time of the year when the annoying tourists flock in.

Haven't seen a Datsun intake in Vermont in more than a decade. Last one I saw just dropped off the head with little effort.
