It's driving me crazy. Every single thread on this forum has people making posts with terrible english/grammar skills. I don't mean just the odd post, but its like I am reading scam e-mail broken english or txt speak. I can't take it anymore.
And I don't mean just regular ol' abbreviations and the like. There has been an explosion of terribly worded/spelled posts on the forums.
For instance:
"His house cause fire years ago. "
WTF kind of writing is that?!
Sorry, just had to vent. I know people could say the same about some of my posts (rarely), but I always try to make my writing understandable, or hide my grammatical errors.
Challenge hangover, I blame the Hongs.
Even tho their is sum bad speling and grammer here occashionaly, its still way bettur than most other forums i freqwent.
Seriously though, sometimes I'm just in a hurry and don't have time to proof-read my writing. One year olds are good for that. Is it bad that it took me way longer to write that horrible sentence than a regular one?
I don't understand what you're saying. ARE YOU SAYING WE SHOULD WRITE IN ALL CAPS?!?
Huked un Fonix werked fer me!

Welcome to the internet. Now try babysitting a forum with more than 100,000 members, a large portion of whom aren't old enough to have their driver's license yet.
I feel like the little Dutch Boy with his thumb in the dike sometimes (no dirty comments, please).
I don't think the dike is going to be too thrilled about that Duke.
My iPhone often replaces somnambulist word with scurvy but since I am driving at a delicious rate of speed through child lined streets Precious suggests I not preview the cottonball before hitting bend.

i blame obama.
and smartphones.
I was writing a text the other day and accidentally added a "b" to the the end of the word "you". My phones auto-suggest feature turned "youb" into "youbworking". Pretty smart of my phone to figure out what misspelled words or slang I might like to use.
Spend 10 minutes on the forum at garagejournal.com and then come back. You will appreciate GRM so much more.

This could actually be a big part of it.
Me fail english? unpossible!
It's time to call the Grammar Police!
As a second-generation Grammar Nazi, I find this to be at once amusing and frightening:
Computer at Carnegie-Mellon is teaching itself English by reading webpages
I think this is actually how Judgement Day starts. They even say in the article that the more it reads, the faster it learns.
It will determine our fate in a microsecond... extermination.

You're (your) surprised that there (their) are massive instances of spelling/grammar errors on an internet message board?!
Maybe you're (your) expecting more (moar) from this specific board because it's (its) such a good community.
That said, texting, spellcheck, AIM and the like have destroyed the ability to spell properly and use proper grammar. I'm still a stickler for it.
I've never been able to spell well (who knows why) but was raised by a very strict grammarian ... spell check is a god send for me.. though sometimes I'm so far off it can't make a suggestion... then I'm either berkleyed or I find a synonym

I agree with Professor Gamby.
Another one that really gets under my skin: "Needs Replaced" and the like
How about "needs TO BE replaced" or "needs replacING"
C'mon, ya gotta admit; GRMers are more linguistically articulate than say the Honda V-Dub forums. Had a guy on a local Dub site threaten to stab me.
WTF? Was that spelt write?
Yo.
I teach highschool shop.
(don't mind the metric spelling, we do that up here in the Great White North)
"Your spelling is atrocious. Can you even spell atrocious? Look here - you even spelled your own name wrong. What were you thinking? Did you fall asleep part way through your name? Three letters were just too much already? Should I just call you Gar? Have we regressed to a monosyllabic vocabulary level so soon? Mono-syallbic. Mono means 'one.' Or a kissing disease, you never know. Syllabic.... what grade are you in, anyway....? Oh, not English 12 Honours, obviously."
And my favourite:
"....The test is entirely multiple choice. Please just give me the letter answer, do not write the answer out. Spelling counts. If you want to put (A) and you put (B) you got it wrong."

Classic!
But it does make a good point. Spelling does matter.
With the interweb giving you only one avenue to the brain it is more critical to have GREAT spelling and punctuation abilities than any other form of communication we have today.
The phone gives us inflection which makes it easier to tell sarcasm from stupidity. It also gives feedback so if you sense someone is misunderstanding you then you can correct their misconceptions.
In person adds body language and, not to forget the oh so important, hand gestures. I'm not Italian but I have learned Italian hand gestures.

Have you looked at your screen name lately, HighTempguy?
A member of our club has a side business doing suspension work, and has a large sign posted at the club track. On the sign, every word is capitalized. The spelling and grammar are atrocious, and the punctuation is either missing, or wrong. It's so bad, it's embarrasing.
What's his day job? High school teacher.
