I treat online postings more like conversations than formal writing, so I tend to word posts that way.
Additionally I'm not a great typist and do not typically proof my posts (like I would for publication), so it's not uncommon to see typos and misspellings... but frankly I'm not going to take the time to edit all that. If there was an online spell checker (like Outlook has), that would likely help immensely.
But I'm seeing really bad word choice (like "your" being used for " you're") showing up more and more in formal communications, newspaper articles, etc... how long until it's formally accepted?
That is one of the things I like about GRM and Classic magazines, rarely will I find a typo. If a typo is obvious to me it must realy be incorect.

Hopefully berkeleying NEVER.
Doctor: "Don't worry, scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick-ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now. "
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.
Aircooled wrote- dumbing down, natural selection, blah, blah.
That goes into my theory of why more people wear glasses now. When we were kids our natural tendancy was to pick on the kids wearing glasses, for a time they were ostricised and got no lovin. Eventualy the outcasts that were half blind and wearing glasses banded together and procreated. The result is the recessive blind as a bat gene with the resultant poor eyesight.
Obviously this trancends mulitple genetic defects and oddities.
Just my humble opinion. Now back to contemplating my navel.

i have to LOLz at this because there isn't a water pump in the world that "needs" a motherberkeleying thing. inanimate objects have no needs. it may be true that the owner needs to replace the water pump, but it is unpossible for a water pump to need.
I've had this very same conversation with my daughter. She seemed to think that the proper use of caps, punctuation, proper tense etc were archaic anachronisms based on the way she does text messages on her phone. So I showed her a couple of posts on some other websites I check at times and asked her opinion of the writer. She got it immediately.
zomby, the part about the HS teacher screwing up the sign was unfortunately something that is becoming more and more common.

You get more of what you subsidize.
We've been subsidizing lazy, shiftless, idiots since the 60's - it's called welfare. There are people whose family has been on welfare for 5-6 generations. There is no reason for them to get an education as it doesn't benefit them. There is a reason to breed as that DOES benefit them.
Job? What's that? There are people who don't even know anyone who has a job, well except for the guys at the 7-11s they rob.
I have difficulty when I hear height said with a lisp at the end as if it were spelled like width.
I work in a high school as a para educator. In one of the science classes I assist the teacher begins each test question, "Answer in complete and grammatical sentences..." Yeah, it's NOT that obvious!

In case it looked like I was picking on high school teachers, I wasn't.
I just wondered how he could have made it through all the levels of school required, without the ability to structure a sentence? I need to get a pic. of that sign.
