Brother just sent me this from a preview page on an upcoming auction... what is this beast?

I was going to guess Soviet, but the Checker on the dash gave it away.

It's a Checker Aerobus

Yep, Checker Aerobus, airport limo. Pretty awesome.

And not an SUV but that one does seem to be sitting pretty high. I'd guess they had some pretty beefy springs to handle the weight

Local Western bar named Desperadoes used to have one of those with a full-length wooden roof rack(stagecoach style of course). After the closed down it sat in a junkyard within sight of the road for several years, but the junkyard guy wouldn't even consider giving a price for it, so it never sold. I thought it would have made a truly kick ass team bus for our bicycle team, but not by the time it was done rotting into the mud.
