While cleaning out my wife's aunt's house we found this item. We are assuming that it was something that she used on the farm. No one in the family has any idea about what it is. So I am asking the great wisdom of GRM for an answer.

I was going with fencemaker's glove, which also can have a cupped piece across the palm like that, but they're a bit different.
Thanks, Karaticus. We thought it might be something like that, but any search I did on hand corn shellers came up with hand cranked machines.
I knew I could depend on GRM for the answer.

Beat me to it. You want it all but you can't have it, it's in your face but you can't grab it....
Well when I saw the pic before reading the answer I was thinking kind g either something for leading cable or twine onto a drum at high speed or I was going to ask about gang activity in her young days.
The five "pins" indicate it may have been attached to something.
Is that cloth thing a part of this ?

What cloth thing? There is a leather/sheepskin ring around the index finger that helps retain the device against the forces of its use. The five pins are rivets attaching the metal "spoon" to the leather grip. It's a complete tool as you see it.
