Wednesday morning I noticed as I was putting my boots on the my left leg was numb, from my kneecap, straight down my shin, to the top of my foot.

I thought I may have slept wrong and figured it would just fade away throughout the day. Lunchtime came and if anything it was getting worse not better. I decided to call my doctor's office to see what they thought. They asked a bunch of questions and said I should come in after work just to be sure.

They said it seemed like a nerve went to sleep and it would likely go away soon. Said it was not likely to be a side effect of my new medication and gave me a couple things to be on the lookout for. Said if it's still like that in a week or so call them for another appointment.

It's Saturday evening now and the leg is still numb. But no other symptoms. No pain, no loss of strength, no change in range of motion.

I don't want to make another appointment and waste a bunch more money if there is nothing they can do about it plus it doesn't seem to really be bothering me other than a weird feeling.

What would you more normal people do? Anyone had various appendages go numb for no real reason?

What's the new medication and what are the side effects? Barring an injury, of which you would likely be aware, the medication seems to me to be the likely culprit.

In reply to 1988RedT2:

It's a blood pressure medication. Lisinopril. They couldn't find any correlation between it and the numbness. But that was my first thought as well. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't from that. They don't think it is.

Talk to a pharmacist before you trust that it's not the medicine.

I just searched "lisinopril numbness" and got hits. Your experience appears to be common.

On the flipside, I've had similar experience, right leg and foot. Mainly the foot. It came and went for probably a month, and was most noticeable when sitting still or when I had riding boots on, because I could feel the boot pushing on one shin and not the other. My best guess is that I crashed funny on the dirt or trials bike and didn't notice at the time, and pinched a nerve with some swelling. What fixed it in the end was not riding for a week or two, and it just went away. Must have allowed something to heal. So weird stuff like that can happen, though yours does sound likely caused by the meds.

That's the fibular nerve. Mines pretty much dead but no one can figure out why. Don't let it go too long. Having drop foot as result is no fun. I trip on flat surfaces.

Mechanics bible. entry #1: What was the last thing someone touched?

If it was the hootus... bonus you and then go to the thing before that. New Medication? Just started Crossfit? Playing with some questionable looking snakes? Probably that.

That's my shifting leg, it would be majorly bad if I lost the ability to shift.

How long should I ride it out?

I'd say follow up on what 1988RedT2 found, then go from there. If it started this past Wednesday, and you don't find anything conclusive on Google, I'd be talking to your doc this Wednesday at the latest.
