What kind of "Car Guy" are you?

I currently own the following makes: Pontiac, Porsche, Mercury, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge, Jeep, Austin Healey, Volkswagen, Buick, Oldsmobile, Toyota, Husqvarna (MC), Honda (MC), and Yamaha (MC), so I like to think I'm not brand loyal. I do 90% of my own work and always have several projects going at once. I think I'd get bored if I didn't. Didn't know this was also a new car thread, but as far as that goes I wouldn't limit myself. I'd looked at whatever interested me. These days that seems to be either Domestic or German. The new 370 looks pretty good though.

Lets see, I have had: 64 Spitfire, 81 510 wagon, 90 Celica, 84 Escort, 85 Omni, 79 Dodge Magnum, 89 Nissan PU, 90 SAAB 900, 81 GTV-6 and a 93 Bonni. Currently at the house are the Spit, the Alfa a 99 SAAB 9-3 and a 03 SAAB 9-5.

I like everything from Hotrods to Lambos, cool is cool.

If you looked in my garage and driveway, you'd think I was a British Car Guy. Old Land Rover, a classic Mini, large portions of an MGB GT and the Lotus wanna-be.

But I'm not. I just like interesting cars. Cars that engage me for some reason. The Brits do that well, but so does the old Cadillac, the Miata and even the donor Camaro (if only because of the comedy handling factor).

I have no brand preference, although I will use Miata parts whenever possible simply because I have such good access to them.

I guess I'm a Datsun guy. I have a 78 280Z and two 510's. I also have a new MINI and a classic Mini. Plus of course the ambulance which is a Chevy. I like cars that are a little left of center, the ones you don't see many of (except the MINI). If I ever won the "big one" I'd need a warehouse to keep all the off the wall grassroots cars I'd buy.

I don't have any kind of brand or country loyalty, my only hangup is that I won't bother with boring cars anymore. I've decided anything I buy must have at least some sporting aspirations even if I have to work at it to make it better. A base model Honda Civic DX has no more appeal to me than a toaster, but make it a CRX and we're in business. (This also includes things like Land Rovers/Cruisers/Jeeps or sedans that were used for rallying - it's my criteria, I get to make it as broad as I want dangit.) Old is cool, oddball is cool, but there has to be at least something that differentiates it from what the "point A to point B" crowd buys.

I'm the best deal kind. No specific brand loyalty. Currently have a Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Opel & MG. Have had in the past Chevy, Nissan, Ford, Rambler, Dodge, Hyundai & Renault. I buy the best deal I can get in the price range I'm looking for that meets the intended purpose.

It was always Mopars for me but not exclusively. Unless they come up with a sporty small sedan with a 6 speed or trick clutchless gearbox, I am moving on. The Kia Forte 2.4 is what the Neon should have been. Not a Caliber.

It will not come as a surprise to most people on the board that I have an affinity for Saturns. However, I like many other brands, and would have no problem buying another brand of car.

The only thing I really dislike is expensive cars. They're stupid. The $200X challenges prove that a car does not have to be expensive to be quick. So why spend money?

if I can buy it for cheap, and it can be a possible racecar, or fun car, I like it! at my SCCA drivers school, I drove a honda Civic. I grew up around Formula cars, and hated front wheel drive, but after that I found at they're extremely fun to drive! and All Datsun and Nizzan Z cars. And a classic aircooled 1200cc Beetle, if anybody has parts, I'll be glad to take them off your hands. My dads 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo is a fun drive too....crazy fast

Let's see I've owned AMC, Dodge, Chevy, SAAB, Honda, and Subaru. Tie between Chevy and AMC for the most of the same brand owned. Not much of a preference for any one brand. As long as it's fun to drive I can handle it.

I've owned just about every brand except for Volkswagen.

I restored a '67 Karmann Ghia for a customer once and that has put me off anything German :)

I have a LBC, lots of Pontiacs, a Ford truck, Jeep truck, Lincoln Continental and bunch more stuff.

I've had two Chryco products over the years and I will never let one darken my driveway with it's presence ever again.

Love my Toyotas, Love my Pontiacs (These are REAL pontiacs with REAL Pontiac engines), Love my Kaiser-Jeep pickup, Love my Ford truck but will never have a Ford car.

Subaru for me (if I have to chose a brand). Though, I am also a big fan of Mazdas.

For American muscle, I used to favor Chevrolet, but if I was buying a new one, I'd only consider a Ford.

Still a sucker for air cooled VW's too!

One day I'll build a Subie powered split window bus. (Nothing quite like a breadbox that can do wheelies!)

Not so much a loyal person far as brans of auto, but for the past 12 years I have been driving ACVW's. I enjoy them and dont exspect other too. Right now I have a 1970 ACVW beetle, and 01 P71. Bolth of the cars feel right.

I like cars with 4 wheels and an engine(running or not).

For a new car, Ford. Screw the rest of them. Not that I will ever buy a new one. Hate Honda. No reason, just do. (flame suit on) Not a fan of BMW either. Don't hate them, but you couldn't give me one. Sports car, 1st gen RX-7. Of all the old cars I have ever owned the best were Chevy. You can't kill them unless you really try. For a work truck, Ford E series vans. I've put over half a million miles on them. By far the most versatile work truck ever. The new ones are as ugly as home made sin though.

I have owned over 100 cars, currently have 16, Triumph, Mazda, Ford, Chevrolet are the current crop, but here is the kicker. I have owned 5 cylinder turbo, flat four turbo, rotary, inline 6, V6 and inline 4 but of the current crop all 16 are V8 and RWD.........................I guess that is my loyalty.

I just need enough power so that the car can get out of its own way, and handling good enough that it can steer out of everyone else's. I prefer manual transmissions, but those are pretty much my only requirements.

I've come to the realization that every manufacturer makes an awesome car and every one of thems makes a turd.

I pretty much have a favorite car from every brand, but I am a GM guy at heart and always will be even through their rougher times. I prefer Pontiac/Cadillac the most especially the 50s and 60s models and of course the Trans Am.

When it comes down to it though...it's gotta be American, although I'd rock the crap out of some of Mercedes muscle cars, especially when a 5.5L block is capable of holding in excess of 1000hp from the factory

Honda guy w/ a curent lust for older Italian stuff (mainly Ferrari/Lambo). Soaking up a bunch of info on the subject recently for the helluvit.

For my fun/project cars I always end up with either SAABs or late '60s/early seventies Fords. These have also been most of my dds too. Its an odd combination, I know. Actualy the Fords with DD duties have been late models. There is a method to my madness though, I have accumlated a lot of hands on knowledge in restoring and maintaining these, not to mention a big stock pile of spares, plus I like to be different; SAABs are different almost everywhere, and Ford was viewed as the domestic under-dog in the circles that I traveled in in my formative years. But I am not locked into these two marques, I've had a couple of Datsuns/Nissans too, and I am sure there will be another one some day. I would happily check out any mid or small car with RWD and a manual gear box. I'm attracted to nearly all Rambler/ AMC products, especialy if they have an I6. I'm going to have at least one BMW before I die. Every time I see a dead Jag in a repair shop lot I wonder how hard a SBC conversion kit could possibly be, I'll probably find out some day. Although I generaly detest GMs, I have a longing to own a corvair; I even have a re-uccuring dream featuring a Yenko Stinger looking corvair. In one version of the dream I am deciding between a North* and LS1 for an engine swap. This is by no means an exhaustive list of the project cars that I'd like to get my hands on.

Going back to DDs, I don't see my self buying a brand new car any time soon, but there are lots of late models that I would give consideration to, with small wagons and hatch-backs going to the front of the que. The likely contenders being the Ford Focus, several Mazdas, Suzuki Areio, scion xb, maybe a subaru, and for the right deal I'd even look into a chevy HHR as long as it had an ecotech engine.

for awhile i was a pure "ford" guy, then i became an "olds" guy, which led to a brief Pontiac obsession. as i got older my tastes became more refined and i transgressed through Audi's, jags, and ultimately Porsche's, with a allot of stuff in-between. I finally figured out it was allot more fun not to worry about the mark, but the results instead. I like hand built, oddball cars, always have. my stable now includes two Porsche 924's, and Isuzu Vehicross, and a Honda insight series one. i guess all i need now is a Maserati bi-turbo and my axis of evil will be complete, then i can blow them all up!

Because I've been a Brit car guy all my life there had to be a dependable dd.

Bought the first Honda new in '75 and never looked back.

Next phase is of my own design but might be partially Brit and Honda, which makes a lot of sense.

The Honda is here to stay hopefully for the rest of my life.

Whatever I can get for 500 bucks is fine with me. I learn to like them later.

I just like to drive... I consider myself more of a driving enthusiast then a car enthusiast, but have developed a healthy respect for the machinery and its design.

I started with Triumph, moved to BMW, now VW. But that didn't keep me from trying this Alfa project. I'm not one of those guys that wrap themselves in the factory logo and deny anything else exists. If money was no object, my garage would look my virtual one in GT4.

My VW buddies all hate me because I like Hondas. A 2nd gen Prelude was the first new car I ever had, and I'm still kicking myself for letting it go.
