I've been looking for a new dd and I recently found a 2010 Ford focus SE two-door with five speed manual for sale. Apparently it was owned by an old gentleman (who passed) and the family has no need for it.  The father put 15,000 miles on it in the last 8 years. There's under 25k total.  Asking price is $4700. I have only seen pictures of the car but it appears to be clean.

$2500 is my normal price point for a dd and although I could afford this it's not the best time to spend this much.
What kind of deal is this ?

This was Ford's least expensive model/version at the time.  Being manual trans, check to see if it has Cruise Control (buttons on steering wheel) if that is important to you.  At the very base model, the cruise was not standard.

Two door and manual trans could be a very hard to sell car with few buyers.  Also lacks the functionality of a hatch like the previous Focus 2dr.  In all, this was a cost saving model for Ford.  Less parts in the line up now that the 4 door and the new 2 door had the same rear section.  I like these cars but there will be really few buyers for it.  MPG with the manual trans will be better than the auto trans.  Rated at 24/28/35.  The 28 seems likely combined compared to the auto trans' more typical 26 combined.

Drive the price as low as you can.  But, with low miles, this could be a keeper for a long time.

Pre-covid this was a $3k car.  Now, it is a $5k car.  Since they are asking just less than $5k, it is just a bargain.

EDIT: the S was the basic trim.  If this is an SE it will have cruise control standard.

Here's a car that I saved on my FB searches.  If just looking for cheap transportation, I would try to go buy this for $2k or as close to $2k as possible.  It was previously asking $3,200 and now at $2,850.  A 2008 w/ 108k so not extremely old or high mile.  A super polarizing look that tends to be focused to an older buyer but with a manual trans, few older buyers will bother.  Mechanically, it will just be straight parts bin.  As good (or as bad) as all it's model kin.

See the snow on the ground.  This baby has been up for sale for a while.  My guess is they did not trade it in when they bought the Jeep because the dealership wouldn't offer them more than $500 (because they knew they'd never find a buyer.)

Says the AC doesn't work.  Now knowing that, I'd shoot for sub-$2k (and then just fix it.)

Any guesses on what it is (before clicking this link?)

We have extensive Focus experience here in 11GTCS land.   Current stable includes my son's 2006 ZX3 that's preparing to head back to the northeast from Texas in a couple of weeks (162 K, 4 speed auto) and a 2017 SE 4 door with a 1.0 Ecoboost and a 6 speed stick.   This will be the fourth cross country trip the ZX3 has made, come on snake eyes....

My daughter had a 2008 "S" two door version of the car you're looking at for 6 years trading it recently for the 2017.  It was a reliable appliance if a very basic one (roll up windows) and other than the AC compressor taking a dump last summer at 12 years old / 145 K it was as reliable as gravity.  She was ready to move up being gainfully employed for the past three years, she had it in for an oil change and found the 2017 on the Ford dealer's lot with a stick otherwise she'd still be in the '08.

The 2.0 is a solid engine, with good maintenance they will easily go 200K.   I think the 5 speed is a plus, while not a sporty car by any means it's reasonably entertaining to drive, has no problem keeping up with traffic and very good on gas.   (She was averaging in the high 20's / low 30's with it.)    The CV joints / wheel bearings seem to be a thing at around 120 K or so, the water pump will need to be done around 150 K but it's a fairly inexpensive / in car job.   These engines have timing chains from 2005 model year up so no issues there.   If it's under 25 K miles the asking price is already fair, make them an offer and you may well steal it.   Good luck!

Al long as you are prepared to replace the plastic cooling system parts (be prepared) there is very little downside to buying this at $3750-4000. I would look into replacing the thermostat housing, belts and hoses possible a set of tires and minor time up components and drive the piss out of it.

Not what I was thinking. I've driven a couple HHRs. Not for me.

The focus must be gone. Ad is down. Went faster than I thought for a manual.
Must not have been meant for me.

No cruise control, the button would be on the steering wheel.  Old ad, no leaves on trees.

I don't see a second shift lever so this might be rwd only.  Suzuki Sidekick

The lowest priced car sold in America for that year.  This lowly version of Nissan Versa only had a 1.6L vs the higher trim level 1.8L.  Cruise was an option and so was AC.

Cheapish Jetta that needs repair

Damn, if it wasn't 800 ish miles from me i'd probably be all over that.  I loved my HHR, warts and all.  Far superior product than it's contemporary rival, PT cruiser.

Several years ago I had a 96 Suzuki optioned like the one you found. Dead nuts reliable for over 50k miles despite me beating the living crap out of it. Not a lot of fun but durable.
