I frequently carry my 4" Cold Steel Voyager lockback. It's kind of big for a pocket knife, but it's so light it's an easy carry. Not too long ago I had it with me at a small pond for a Cub Scout fishing event. I used it to cut up big nightcrawlers so the kids could catch some sunfish. Remind me to wash it off before I use it to cut some cheddar.

Those things are awesome. I was a bonehead and lost mine going through check-in at the airport.

I am curious as to the conditions in which that situation was presented, and would like to know more.

My friend loves his Gerber multitool, he calls it Kirby.

Best name for a multitool, ever.

When there is only one good fuse left and I need to have a circuit hot - sometimes improvisational techniques that are somewhat hazardous are employed. Typically this is done because I am already wedged under the dashboard and in no mood whatsoever for climbing in and out. I am also probably armed with the knowledge that the last fuse blew because I have a nest of hot, bare wires in front of me and I guessed wrong.

That's some pocket!

I have a Victorinox "cybertool" that I've carried for almost 10 years now. It's got:

Big blade/little blade

Axial screwdriver with interchangeable bits, including flat, Phillips, and Torx

Big screwdriver/bottle opener

Little screwdriver/can opener

Awl

Corkscrew w/ jewellers flat screwdriver

Tweezers / toothpick / straight pin / ballpoint pen

The only thing it lacks is a scissors. I miss those. other than that, I use it for everything from gasket scarping to first aid to eating.

I have a Leatherman CORE becaus that's what soldiers in the field are issued. They use them for measuring parts, holes and other things when disassembling a cannon. I have to do what they do.

I used to have about 20 of those 1/2 X 1" Swiss Army keychain knives, I'm down to only one. The TSA has the rest.

This thread reminds me of an Anchorman quote.

People call me the Bry man; I'm the stylish one of the group. I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right you just might get to meet the whole gang.

I have carried on of these for years. If I lost it today, I would buy another tommorrow.

I hate carrying "another thing" so I hated the idea of have a big knife on me. Heck, I only carry 4 keys but this is an acceptable 5th. What I typically need a knife for is to open a fed ex shipment. Don't you hate it when the tape is stronger than you are?
Of course, I have pryed more bs with this and used it in far more way that it was intended!
Recently I have seen that O'Reileys Auto has these for like $6.99.

I have never had an issue with this in any airport.
I wish I could say that i have never had an airport incident...
Detroit Metro Airport in early 2005. I had a 4" blade in a duffle bag that I did not check well enough.
Federal Misdemeaner, manditory court appearance and $250 fine.

I replaced my always-on-me CRKT tanto folder with a Leatherman Skeletool after last Christmas.

Holy hell, I don't know how I lived without it so long. It's barely bigger/heavier in my pocket than the CRKT, and it's a million times more useful. For one thing, it has an actual screwdriver, which keeps me from buggering up my CRKT blades. I mean, we all know better than to use our nice knives for screwing/prying, but who can resist the temptation?

I first thought the Skeletool was lacking features, but it only has what you need, nothing more.

And my CRKT lives in my boot now.

The knife in my right pocket is a Gerber 425, used for opening boxes and shows it's wear & tear, not pretty but get's the job done. I call her "Pocketknife".

The knife in my left pocket is a Kershaw 1620 spring-assist. She's sharp as blazes and I call her "Necessary Evil".

All the other fold-out, multi-tool, handy-dandies go in the glove box and I call them all kinds of horrible things, usually when it's dark, raining and I'm on the side of the road using them.

My pocket knife has but one name- Buck. Replaced the one that TSA hooligans stole from me. I'm more careful now, but will always have a simple, one blade, Buck.
