I'm at a point in my life where I may decide to re-locate. If you were going to move to another location in the USA where would it be? Why?

Would you consider moving out of the USA? If so, where? Why?

If I had to leave the USA the only place I would want to live would be Germany. I spent some time there and loved it. Most people are very cool ( some asshats, like everywhere) and polite, clean city's with a nice train system (and the run on time, unlike here).

Currently working toward being able to afford a 2nd...maybe even full-time home in the Caribbean, depending on how much more berkeleyed things get in the US in the next 30 years or so. As stated in the Florida thread though, I berkeleying love North Georgia.

I love the scenery of the pacific northwest - WA, OR although I struggle a bit with left coast politics. Maybe ID is a better choice - good scenery there. The downside is that most of the places I would want to live don't have enough going on to make the kind of living the family is accustomed to. Maybe transitioning to consultant gigs would work with a bunch of travel.

Alternatively, TN, NC around Asheville look pretty cool. International - I used to be intrigued by Argentina - interesting car stuff down there. Current regime kinda lost their minds - or to stay in power have to do wacky stuff to keep the poor appeased. Otherwise, NZ for scenery although the independent part of me pushes back on the nanny state regulatory climate of most of europe - maybe romania, hungary...

Across the street from Road America - I love Central Wisconsin. (also Sturgeon Bay or Fish Creek, Wisconsin)

That's where he is now.

Grae, I'm pretty happy here in east TN. I really don't think I would want to move anywhere else. If we could turn down the humidity in the summer time it would be perfect.

San Diego + Datsun 510. I can "hang out" in the garage all year long.

I want to be this guy.

Not being too specific, but I'm house shopping right now and looking into houses in the city. At the same time I may look into a small place in the country, so look around at places near and find the environment you want, then start looking on a broader sale for something similar. It also may give us a better idea of what you are looking for.

This for me. I love, love, love central Oregon. The high desert there is beautiful.

The no car rust parts are usually also the no money parts, or the no motorsports parts. I'll take rust in that tradeoff.

If I were to move from where I am, I'd love to be in Northern Wisconsin/UP, or somewhere in Virginia/South Carolina/North Carolina area.

Don't want to move out west, I don't like heat, and I do like winter. The place I'm in would be perfect if it had one or more of the following: A nice body of water, mountains, curvy roads, or rolling hills. The farmland gets pretty boring after awhile, but the place has a lot of other stuff going for it.

If I wasn't walled off from most of the civilized world, I like where I am now. Hopefully when school is over, I'm out of here! I'll head to Chucktown so the wife can go back to school @ MUSC. I want to go back to living in civilization.

If I was going to go out of country, Down Under is where I would be.

I like semi-rural central FL. I would like central FL a lot less if I was in Orlando proper, though.

I like central NC. Close to the beach, and the mountains. I would like to be closer to the beach though. If I left the US, I would move to the Cayman Islands. I love the slower pace down there and the views.

Puerto Rico just changed tax laws, so you get to remain an american citizen, but don't have the income tax situation. Probably some good beaches there.

I've lived in CA (northern and southern), CT, FL, TX, WA, HI, AR, and VA. All have their advantages and disadvantages. So I'm just going to move every few years.

Internationally, I'd like New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, etc, but I do feel that nanny state thing would make me crazy. Perhaps a few months a year once we get our "work" bullE36 M3 done in the next 15 years.

Lots of different answers to that. If a job wasn't required, there are lots of places I'd be happy to land.

Near the Mountains in Montana, Jackson hole, wyoming/Driggs Idaho, Park City Utah, West of Golden Colorado and San Juan Islands in Washington are on Powerball real estate buying plan.

I live in Vermont, and I absolutely love it, and no desire to leave, but I have a good job for the area. I'm not sure I'd encourage a move here. If you like four seasons, you'll experience them here. Your car will rust to death, but it's a beautiful place to live, crime is minor compared to the rest of the country. There is a wide and friendly motorsports scene. Lots of outdoor activities. Not a large population, so big box stores and restaurants really don't overwhelm the area. You can easily live 90 minutes away from your closest walmart, but most of the time its 40-60 minutes. Winter can be tough if you don't like to enjoy snow. No earthquakes, no tornadoes, hurricanes are rare. Enjoyable place to hunt and fish, but the bigger game is out west. I can go a couple of weeks without seeing a traffic light. Some people love the rural nature of the place, while for others the silence is deafening.

I can't really help you much there Grea. I am in a bit of "disadvantaged" position in that I have lived in California all my life and have no long term experience with snow, humidity, significant rainfall etc. It's a bit strange, but it would be hard for me to move anywhere else. Well, I could move to a another Mediterranean climate, but that would mean either the Mediterranean (obviously) or the south west coast of Australia.

One thing I will say though is that people seems to able to adapt to pretty much anywhere, so don't get too worried about a place if it doesn't seem perfect.

Perhaps you can provide some info on what you consider important. e.g. weather, population, access to nature, sporting events, major airports, lakes, good sailing locations etc.

I'm pretty happy here in WNC ... don't care a bit for the ocean so I really wouldn't want to move any farther east ( where Cole_Trickle lives... it's too hot for me there if nothing else ) if I were to move it would be no more than 50 - 60 miles north of this valley .... more rural but still close enough to Asheville, Charlotte, Greenville, Atlanta .... etc ...
