Count me in as another double edge safety razor.

Better feel, better shave, and much much cheaper.

Although, I just use dove soap and cheap wilkinson sword blades (wally world) for now.

Walgreens brand disposable 3 or 4 blade. It is turquoise and black. One razor lasts about a month, which is about 10-20 shaves, or $0.05 to $0.15 a shave. Before shaving cream anyways.

I think hipsters have that real close trimmed beard. Your safe from hipsterness since your rocking that full on ZZtop/Oakridge boy beard.

Still rocking the Mach 3 here. I bought a big package of blades at Costco a few years back and I still have plenty left. I use them until the green strip loses it's color. It's quick and easy, I've never put much thought into it, frankly.

I use an Edwin Jagger DE89 safety razor, Feather blades, Tweezerman brush, and Proraso shave soap. I've tried many other blades and none of them are as good as Feather. I've tried electrics and cartridge. I much prefer the safety razor.

LOL … it used to be that … it's lots closer cut now … not the Don Johnson dirty face look, but 1/2 to 3/4" long now … yrs ago it was more like 5 - 6'' all the way around

I tend to keep using my blades until it feels like I am trying to remove skin with it.. generally up to a month of use.

The $9 one from Dollar Shave Club. 4 blades will last me a year and I shave daily except weekends.

Yeah, that's what I use. I've always had to shave twice in a row no matter what I use. If I shave once (down), I step out of the shower with 5:00 shadow. If I shave once (up), I step out of the shower looking like a burn victim. So I use those big aircraft-carrier-sized Gilettes, and shave down, then up, back to back. I get about 2 full weeks out of a cartridge; I can push it to 3 if I strop it backwards against my arm for the last week.

I'm partial to Nivea Men unscented, uncolored shaving gel.

Since I only shave my head not my beard I use Headblade products.

A previous poster noted storing your blades in mineral oil. This or just dry them off after use. They get dull because they are getting microscopic rust on the edge from being put away wet, keep that from happening and they'll last. I shave my head daily and get 6-9 months out of a blade.

I've been using the Mach 3 power system for about ten years now and loved it. Mach 3 blades mount off center, so the back side of the blades is open, making cleaning easier.

I tried straight razors, but found it too fidgety for me. The plus side of trying a straight razor was discovering hot lather from shave soap and a brush. I used Col. Conk for the longest time, but just switched to Proraso in the tube. Proraso is a great product. I can't say enough about how much more pleasant this is than squirting some cold foam out of a can. I briefly used Everyman Jack shave cream, and it was better than aerosols, but still inferior to Proraso. The unscented Everyman Jack actually smells of beer, so there's that.

As much as I've liked Mach 3, I'm on my first pack of Dollar Shave Club Humble Twin blades. The handle is light, but the shave is okay. It's not as nice as Mach 3, and doesn't clean nearly as well, but throwing out the blade each week seems to give a good result. I'm not completely sold.

I like the middle line of DSCs razors. Their shave butter is really nice too. However, I have a short beard, so i really only shave my neck and trim my cheeks. Might be a different story if I had to go clean shaven.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to give a safety razor a try. Not sure which yet though.

That Gillette 5-blade does do a good job. Got one free with a can of shaving cream. Have a couple issues with it though. It does load up quickly causing to rinse it frequently and it's difficult to trim edges like sidburns and mustaches. Hard to tell where the blade(s) begin. But I do like the results though. Used to use Atra but replacement blades are $$$. Started using the disposables and noticed they last just as long and shave just as good as the fancier ones. I shave in the shower using a (supposedly)fog-free mirror and found out that I get less knicks, closer shave and the razors last 4 times longer. As for the fog-free mirror, spray with after shower cleaner before and rinse with clean water and it does stay fog free.

The one thing to make sure of when you switch to your new razor is that you get a good shaving soap and brush. I have had good luck with Etsy, but everyone has their favorites.

Flip it over and edge with the single blade on the back side of the head - very little of the big surround that's on the front side to get in your way.

Edwin Jagger DE89 is a better beginner friendly razor than the Merkur equivalent IMO. Skip all the nonsense and get Feather Blades.

Feather blades aren't bad, but for my razor I've already found three that are quite a bit better.

That's why I suggested the variety pack I mentioned previously. Try different blades in your particular razor, and on your own face. See what works well.

Awesome. I will order that variety pack.
