man you should have seen the fights we used to have here.. vicious and mean.. I was not a nice person.

Generally we all just came to an understanding to not needle each other so much.. new folks sometimes rile us up.. but generally this place chills out when the new guy leaves or calms down..

The guys on here are really good folks and I realized they liked me trying to cram my beliefs down their throats as much as I liked them doing the reverse.... and they're such good folks, I didn't want to do it anymore and they vice versa.

the awesome thing about the libertarian position is that it doesn't try to cram beliefs down anyone's throat... participation in capitalism or a government based on libertarian concepts is completely voluntary. If libertarian principles are followed, it makes little difference which political party is in power or who the President is. You are basically left alone to do your own thing.

The fights comes when those of other political persuasions try to force others into their way of seeing things... if you want to be a socialist, fascist, progressive, etc... but leave me out of it... more power to you! ;-)

No, it's not. My beliefs are that you are absolutely free to believe whatever you'd like to as long as you leave me out of it.

By definition, that is in no way cramming my beliefs down anyone's throats... it's just not allowing you to cram yours down mine. It's a one way street....

Ineffective, notice how many natives are still around? The blankets were a good idea at biological warfare, but goes to show how poorly it works. So basically, you're saying that you'd give us Albertans free health care, money, and housing? I'm totally IN!

What happened to the USA can be summed up from a quote from Bill Maher:

"...sensitivity is [now] more important than truth; feelings are more important than facts; commitment is more important than individuality; children are more important than people; safety is more important than fun..."

You know, my b-i-l moved back east to New Jersey and found Obama. He's turned into one of those "he can do no wrong and if you think differently than you are a closed minded fool."

It's not hte difference in opinion that burns my bum, it;s the fact that if your opinion is different than his YOU are the closed minded idiot that just doesn't get it. But it's OK for him to ignore your opinion.

I think we call that a "Hypocrite".

Coming from a guy that claims Americans are stupid and must be dragged, kicking and screaming, to accept the policies of an administration that advocates nothing within the quotation marks................

That attitude is pretty common these days. You should listen to Hannity, the logical argument and respect for a dissenting opinion are completely foreign to that guy, he has some pretty glaringly hypocritical moments and never realizes it.

Not unlike the quote Redhornet attributed to Maher, right?

Compare this to Rh's Maher quote: Maher's condescension is immediately apparent, but goes ballistic after 35secs.

Certainly, Maher is a strange one, claims he is Libertarian, but I really don't see it...

Just pointing out that that attitude is all over, especially in the newsertainment. Anyone know of any exceptions, I would love to hear them?

There is a slice of the political pie that prefers leftist economics combined with liberal (libertarian) views on Government interference in their lives. So they want the government running the economy but out of their lives otherwise. (This is as opposed to mainstream leftists who are collectivist/illiberal in philosophy... a more conventional position)

I consider that "fantasy world"...but he's not alone there.

One of my favorite columnists is Camille Paglia. She considers herself a libertarian and in her columns virtually always takes a philosophically sound libertarian position. She constantly harps on Dems (with which she self-identifies) of being slaves to the "Big Government knows best" mentality.

Except for two areas. She prefers activist judges who have no problem reinterpreting the laws to fit the end result... and can always be counted on to support whichever candidate has the most extreme leftist economic position... two areas completely at odds with everything else she believes. Astounds me that an otherwise brilliant woman could hold such philosophically opposed beliefs. But in that way, much like Maher (who actually used to hold more libertarian views than he does now...)

Libertarian supporting socialist economics? That is weird. But I guess it's no different, really, than alleged small government/spending restraint Republicans going on the spending spree of the last several years.

Maybe they're only putting up libertarian views to push their leftist agenda?

There was a quote I recently saw from a R somewhere in the midwest/west. He said "There's 2 parties. The Evil party and the Stupid part. I'm in the Stupid party."

Big government Republicans (which generally include boththe radical religious right and neocons) actually suscribe to the same big government/collectivist philosophy as illibierla leftists... but in the inverse of the other fantasy world I posted earlier, they want Government involved in their everyday life (actually in others' everydays lives), but out of their economics. Just as unrealistic... but we saw several years of it.
