I'm in Tempe for the next week and a half for work. What are the must do's in the evenings?  I'm going to look up auto museums. Any GRMers in the area?

Are there any tours of the Airplane graveyard ?

Or a shop there where you can buy stuff ?

The Penske dealership in North Scottsdale has/had a small museum.

I'm up in Flagstaff, but most of my Phoenix trips involve In n Out, Fogo de Chao, and other restaurants.  Apparently I have an eating problem :-)

If you're in town this weekend, Overland Expo is going on up in Flagstaff.  Other than that, I would spent some time walking around Mill Avenue at night.  If you have time, you could take a drive to Sedona, Globe, etc and check out some of the scenery.

I'll be coming through Phoenix (if things work out with the seller) on Sat with a new to me NB Miata, if you're around!

B-I-L lives in Tempe.  I'll hit him up for the "must-dos"

Going to check out the Penske museum I think. My coworker is doing his own thing so I am solo.

OK, B-I-L got back to me.

  • With ASU students gone, Mill Ave is a quieter place to check out, in Tempe.
  • Try to get to Phoenix (Roosevelt Row area) or Old Town Scottsdale - both are 15 minutes away
  • Tempe Town Lake has paddleboards/ kayaks you can rent.  B-I-L sometimes goes out around sunset, says its really pretty.

I am in South Tempe.  If you don't go up to the Expo tomorrow, Sat night at the Pavillions is the longest running car show.  There is old school legit hot rods to the cars you see on 1320 street video along with a lot of sport bikes.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Scottsdale-Pavilions-Car-Show/167474223277945

Tomorrow morning is Euros and Churros.  These guys have legit RS4s and RS6s they import and get federally converted.  Very cool to see and really good guys.  https://www.facebook.com/azeuros/

Depending on your age, Old Town Scottsdale has a big bar scene that goes Thur - Sun.  Several day drinking spots and day pool clubs if you like.

I am old and do not have much else for must does.  Hole in the rock is a good spot to watch the sunset in North Tempe, 3 minute hike https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/hole-in-the-rock-trail

Four Peaks is great for beers and chill people.  They also have amazing food.  https://www.fourpeaks.com/pubs/

Then I went to the Commemorative Air Force Combat Avation History Museum. It was quite impressive. One of their volunteers is a 95yr old WWII veteran who drives a gen 1 Viper.

I tried to go to one more car collection but it is not open to the public and only for events. The G Collection.

I wish I could get a peak at this one.

Not sure what I am doing tomorrow. Maybe just hit up the outlets for some people watching.

Then back to work Monday.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

A few days late, but if you have to go back.....

Just south of Tempe is the Local Motors https://localmotors.com/tempe/ factory.  I would see if they have any interesting Rally Fighter stuff happening there.  That's also really close to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports park, you could see if anything is happening there as well. There are also a good number of good breweries in the area if you are into that.

My good friend has a place you should check out for breakfast/lunch, but it will be crowded over the weekend.
