Will be in Canada later this spring. Looking for things to do/places to visit in or around Winnipeg, have a day or 2 of free time.

It may be later in the spring from wherever you are coming from but that might not be the case in Winnipeg (Winterpeg) so bring the appropriate clothing. (Edit - I see you're coming from Minnesota, you'll be fine lol)

I've spent a bit of time around the city over the past couple of years working southwest of there (Steinbach, do not visit lol). Here are some of my suggestions.

Visit Loosecannon at Speedworld and go karting! He's over by the airport.

If you are into Aviation the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is also right at the airport and a really nice museum, some military stuff, some civil, a bit of stuff on the Gimli Glider etc. Worth a visit for a few hours. Along the same lines if you go around the corner from there the Air Force Heritage Airpark has a number of aircraft outside on pedestals to walk around.

The typical touristy things are to stop by the Canadian Museum of Human rights or the Mint, haven't done either but maybe one of these trips I will.

The Forks area is really nice to walk around, I usually park across the river in St Boniface and walk over the pedestrian bridge and explore from there. The trail along the river is really nice provided the Red River hasn't overrun it. I like to walk over to the Manitoba Legislature where you can see the Louis Riel Sculpture. Lots of food and drink at the Forks and a large outdoor licensed patio looking out at the river too. Prairie dogs are fun to watch too.

Over in St. Boniface you can check out the semi ruins of the Cathedral and see Louis Riel's gravesite (he's rightfully a big deal in Manitoba). Lots of French roots there too.

If you want to get out of town I've headed up the Red River to Selkirk and then North to Gimli on Lake Winnipeg and grab some baked goods, fish and chips and enjoy a small lakeside town where the flatness of the area just continues on into the water.

Civil engineering fan? At the south end of the city you can visit a park dedicated to the Red River Floodway - National Historic Civil Engineering Site.

If you're really bored you can head east out of town on 1 (Trans Canada Highway) and visit the centre (see how we spell it?) of Canada but I think you can figure out better things to do.

Burrito Splendido is as good as it sounds.

By 6 hours you mean 8 lol.

Did that on one of my trips to visit an old friend near Estavan, thought I was going to hit a dear on the way and then ended up seeing a Moose!

The Kenora / Lake of the Woods region on western Ontario seems nice. Probably an hour and a bit drive east. I drove through there in summer some years back and it seemed like a lovely region, but I haven't been back unfortunately.

Find Prairie Town performed by Randy Bachman, Neil Young and Margot Timmins then see if you can follow in Randyand Neil's footsteps.

Royal Canadian Mint has a really nice tour.  You get to see how their money is made.

You'll need to log in to post.
