I would go through everything, inside and out. Old people tend to hide cash in strange places, found $400 in a cookbook my Aunt had.

Before he died, my dad told me to go through everything, because Mom was stashing money all over the place. We found almost $2500 in a tin in the fridge, plus another couple of hundred in various cubby holes in a desk. Haven't looked behind the pictures on the wall, yet, but that seems to be another likely hiding place. I've also found several checks written to her that she hid in a dresser, as well as bills she had written checks for and then hid instead of mailing them. Dementia is a terrible disease.

If I had any old family records I would keep them.  At 66, I have almost no living relatives to talk to about family history. The few things I found a few weeks ago hike decluttering went straight back into storage.
